Pretty much. They're crap. Your points raised apply to so many bands. They literally only have two good songs and both are overrated as fuck. I might go slam some gojira on instead
Welp, a thread like this is bound to illicit the typical one dimensional responses likely in the internet world. I used to casually enjoy Slipknot 15 years ago but I don't think they suck. My preferences in the genre are much more skewed to thrash, punk and death metal however I wouldn't "change the channel" if they came on the radio. I've hung out with a few bands (locals), in my day and I certainly respect the work, dedication and passion required to achieve ANY sort of success. In that regard Slipknot kicks ass and my hat is off to them.
Thank you, I agree with a lot of your points, although I often don't listen to death metal, or punk metal, but nu metal and heavy metal I know well. (Plus, they have their own clothing brand. How the hell they were able to do that, I honestly don't know... but that should be worthy of attention!)

It's not even that much of an legend, than more of an general opinion. The only way I can agree with that is with them nowadays. They seem nothing special that sticks out, and Chad Krueger. All I need to say is his name, and you'd probably might know why.
I like a lot of metal. System of a Down, Mastodon, Motorhead, Sabbath, Avenged Sevenfold, Rage Against the Machine, etc etc. I do not like: Slipknot, Limp Bizkit. Basically, even a true Metalhead such as me doesn't really like Slipknot. Their sound is generic, repetitive, and generally emotionless. Take any Mastodon riff, for example. You can tell that they put their goddamn hearts and souls into them. However, Slipknot couldn't be any more opposite. Well, atleast your kind of new to this. I'd recommend the 1st/2nd album to listen to. Really? Then why does that sound like an NEWER song than others like Photograph, which was pretty decent. Also, I only find Slipknot repetitive in the end of a few Iowa songs and some Self-titled songs.
Not just repetitive, but moreso there's no real emotion put into the music. Even Nickelback, in songs like "side of a bullet", you can tell that they feel something, that they mean something. If you wanna hear a good song, listen to "Crack the Skye" by Mastodon. Not only is it a great representation of Mastodon, it is also a very good example of converting emotions into song. Also, i will say that old nickelback was pretty ok, their newer stuff is complete shit though.
Yeah, Nickelback hasn't been doing well lately. Also, I'm sure pain isn't an emotion (because that's a feeling), but is there any group you mention that PUTS PAIN into their music. If you don't know which one I'm talking about, I mean the album Iowa. There's an documentary "Disasterpieces" that mentions that album, and the pain they went through at that time. (Also, by the way, there was an time where Slipknot shunned Limp Bizkit for calling their fans "fat kids".)
Limp Bizkit's a pussy ass douchebag, plain and simple. Also, Crack the Skye had a good bit of pain put into it, and its easy to hear in the 4th verse/ Bridge. The song itself is about Brann Dailor's sister's suicide at the young age of fourteen. I suppose Slipknot isnt the worst band on the planet, I just prefer other bands.

All better than Nickelback.
The first one is kind of the similar thing with "The Gray Chapter", 4 years after bassist Paul Gray died. Yeah, It's not the worst. You got other pop/rap bands that are worse than Slipknot.
