Okay... I'm not sure this is the right place to post this but... Okay. I'm a complete noob at this. I want to mod the crap out of the Grand Marshal to create some sort of paint scheme from NASCAR. If I'm not allowed to use real sponsors on the car, then I'll make up my own. Could someone please tell me what programs I need, and how to do it? I just need the basics, not step by step instructions.

GIMP is a wonderful free photo editing suite, but if it scares you there's also the much easier to learn (but also less capable) Paint.NET. The file you'd be looking to edit is fullsize_d.dds in BeamNG-DRIVE-0.3 -> vehicles -> fullsize. Real sponsors are allowed, but IMHO fictional "spoof" sponsors would better fit BeamNG's fictional universe than real ones. As for the actual art bit: I'm totally clueless. I'm a programmer, not an artist.

Okay... Also, will I have to extract the file to... somewhere to be able to install it to the game?

How do can I edit textures through Paint.net? Like, how do I extract the file to paint it. I really wish someone would make a video tutorial. Also, I'll release the mod once its done!

Also, I tried to open fullsize_d.dds in paint but it said that file is not supported.

That's mspaint you're trying to use. You want Paint.NET (Direct download link). MSPaint (the paint that comes with Windows) is generally awful at everything. You shouldn't have to extract the file or anything, they're all sitting there in their normal, uncompressed format in the fullsize folder. Once paint.NET is installed you should just be able to double click on the .dds files and open them.

Alright, man. I prefer to use Inkscape for any writings or logos (it uses SVG), then i save image as png and convert it with Gimp (you need DDS plugin for this)
