If I get some time this week, probably Friday, I can start recording some nice sounds! I'll just use my studio boom microphone with a pop filter on it and a laptop to record, so it should sound pretty good Does anyone know what the stock Sunburst and SBR4 rev to? (I'm at school currently) My car has a range of 800-5500 RPM. It redlines at 6k RPM, but I'm not the first owner so I don't think I'll get that close. If the Sunburst and SBR4 rev close to 8k RPM you should be fine with pitch, anything higher than that may cause issues with sound quality.
The SBR4 base model maxes out at around 7600-7800ish RPM. The sunburst base model maxes out at around 6800rpm.
Once I get my Lumina up and running I can provide the wonderful sounds of a gimped 3.1L V6 for the Pessima if you'd like. I'll get a nice glasspack to open her lungs up soon enough.
Hey guys, so, some awesome progress has been made lately on a modern V8 sound . I've managed to obtain and record some V8 samples from an older Audi RS4 engine and woo is it sounding good! At the moment, there is a way to go yet before release as I have to painstakingly normalise, level and adjust each sample just because of how incredible BASSY this engine is! Seriously, had to cover my microphone with another layer of sound deadening just to stop level out peaking but hey ho, it's going well! It has the most wonderful mid range grumble it's to die for, at the moment, i've only very quickly sorted samples up to 5460 RPM in the following video so you can more so here this lovely grumble below, hence why it's so low revving at the moment. Fear not though, as it's willing to rev up to 7200RPM quite happily. It's just getting that sample ratio correct, leveling correct, treble higher, bass lower, DB limit in place AND making sure Beam.ng doesn't shit it self or shit on the sample quality of these very raw, loud, high quality sounds. As I said, this is an early early look at some rough sample work i've got ready for the game so far, you'll notice it's louder in the wrong areas, quieter in the wrong areas and verrrrrrrrrrry bassy but hey...if you got big speakers, turn em up? Lol. Enough chat, here's a sample I set up on the Fiat Uno which is quite funny at the moment : Let me know what you guys think, still lots of work to be done with this sample so by the time it's released, barring any issues, it should be a FINAL release from the go .
My microphone has no wind filter on it, but I'll see what I can do to remedy that. Also when I record I'm not going to edit the audio that I send simply because I don't know the workflow and desired result
Just wrap it anything like a small rag or towel will do fine, you want it away from direct airflow as much as you can just for example playing it a secure section under the hood and secured in place (either via squashing with the hood it self, or a piece of plastic or carboard to push it/secure it in place). If there is too much wind noise, I can't use the sample. If it's too loud, I can't use it either lol. Try your best just to make sure it doesn't blast the mic sensor out (peaks/too loud) and it's protected by any means you can find from wind noise and whatever you produce should sound as good as it can . Remember, idle, plus successive steps up every 500 rpm to redline is all you need to do (or close to redline if you don't want it hitting the limiter).
Going to finish off and release the V8 sounds soon . Going to release samples up to 7400 rpm, will release for SBR4, Sunburst and probably something else xD.
Got the idle sound done for the 2.5L NA. No nature noises or anything sounds clean, but it's got that background white-noise and it's bugging me. I'll have to do some editing on it to try and remove it. Note for later: Idle is at 900 RPM
With the white noise, if you have part of the file that is JUST white noise and nothing else I can filter it out. If it's over the whole sample, you may need to reduce the gain by quite a bit or add more protection to the the mic .
Finished samples up to 7800rpm. Still some bass tweaking to do, off throttle flutter and maybe some more added effects but for now...I think it's sounding pretty damn good overall so I hope you enjoy. Releasing soon . Want to fix ways to add rolloff effects and make it really burble on the off throttles, in progress!
That's annoying that I've only just found this page too, I had an '04 transit in at work today with the 2.2 in it. Went home this evening though.
Still would LOVE to find someone who has one willing to record good samples of it, no worries, i'm sure it'll happen .
Yep Audi RS4 V8 sound from back in the day they did the non estate version lol. Now...now now now, these are actually throatier, rear micced sounds. I do have interior sounds as well however I feel they may be a bit too loud and a bit too bassy bit I may replace he higher RPM samples. Only because, I want that rattle at the top end like the more open exhaust versions have. Depending on quality, I'll see if I can get some high RPM samples with that raspy throaty tone up top but always it's hard to find that quality consistency. We'll see!
I've updated first post with mirror download for the 2.5L Diesel sound for the hopper as the repo has taken a very slow time to update, I mean, I uploaded it last TUESDAY and it's still not gone live lol.
Version 1.0 of the Audi RS4 inspired 4.2 V8 sound mirror link has been added to OP . Safe to say, even at this first release stage, I think it sounds awesome and is well suited to the ETK-K!
