You should apply to the devs as a sound designer for cars :p

Heh thanks. I wouldn't mind working as a freelance sound designer for them if they hired me :D.

So some small fiddling around with FH3 sound samples, this one is a direct conversion of the samples from the Ford Fiesta XR2 which is one of my favourite vehicles of all time and one of the best sounding I4 engines in a game too. It's not QUITE there yet, I may have to record the samples direct from driving the car in the game, however for now, it just needs volume adjustments (further...very tedious!) to make it sound crisper and raspier like it is in the game, anyway, here is a WIP samples for now, notice the rolloffs...so lovely :D!

Indeed :). Even though the era period 205 GTI has a nice note...it's choosing at the moment between the rawer Automation samples, the cleaner FM7 samples, or my personal real life samples which do need some work...oh and other samples xD.

Yeah...I'm note 100% sure what it is, i;ve been mixing and matching my headsets recently and been fiddling with my soundcard so that may have played some part. However yes, the sound quality levels are a little all over the shop with the extracted samples, I may need to resort to in game recording but that's so hard because finding a place with 0 ambient sound is so very hard besides the airstrip (still get crickets buzzing and other wind effects though at times).

I think it's just the leveling, it needs a serious treble boost ON load, and a decrease in treble but increase in bass crackle with the OFF loads. Currently this was just a proof of concept, with some volume leveling and DB reduciton then thrown straight into the game. Will keep tweaking it of course :).
    --- Post updated ---
Ok, hows this now after some tweaking?

I reworked all the samples again, lowered bass, increased treble and cleaned up some transitions, I think it sounds MUCH better now on my setup but let me know how it sounds for you guys and I'll continue to make adjustments if need be :).

Dev build has unlocked files :), not all of them work though as some of the bank files are AWEFULLY named but given time i'll have them organised. The XR2 sample which this is, is happily in it's own zip folder which is interesting it's called like "classic I4" and has unique, RPM samples in there from 1-6000rpm, plus, it has a granular throttle sample, as in, acceleration from idle to red line then the same again from redline to idle decceleration which would be bloody fantastic if granular sample software wasn't either so expensive to use, locked behind other software, or in terms of the free ones, poor quality software. In short, lots of files can be accessed and hopefully lots of files can migrate to Beam

Awesome! Good to know :D, will continue to fiddle away when I have the time and then organise a release soon once finished :).

Got an '08 Transit in the now, newer engine on the facelift but still quite transit-y. If that is a word. I'll see if I can get some recordings if you want. It might be here for a while, it might not, it failed it's MOT 'cause it was rotten so it might stay for welding.

That would be awesome if you could! That engine should be perfect sounding . What means of recording do you have? As long as you can cover from peaking out the mic and wind noise all should be good :).

I'll see, I've got some clean dusters that I can use that aren't too thin or too thick. I haven't got an audio recorder but I have an Iphone that is new (got it at the start of the year). I'll see what I can do.

Sounds good, good luck with it :).

Just a general update for everyone to remind them that all my current release are on my front page of the this thread. The repo releases are on a go slow at the moment as the repo team half are on holiday so service is disrupted at the moment. Should get back to normal within a week.

New update for you for you all.

I should now be able to release some great sound mods for the various diesel buses released on the repo :D. I've got a variety lined up that I need to play with first and see how they fit into the mod vehicles. The plus side with this is that I want to release a complete mod from the get go with as much custom sound content as possible for the buses. I will need to explore the .bank files and see if I can change things like rattles, backfires, creaks and all that but we shall see how that goes.

    EDIT

Update to the update, a quick example of the sort of Diesel sounds you can expect! A tad upset by the terrible transmission this bus has in game lol but you get the idea, it's relatable to a MAN Double Decker bus with a I6 D2866 Diesel engine:

I think with such little editing to get them working in game this has come out really well! Hopefully, the mod author will update both buses again in the future but for now these sounds certainly fit the bus very well IMO :).

    Small update for you guys.

The 4.2 sound will be on the repo by 3-4 hours or so.

Next up, I'm planning to do an evo 7-10 sound for the sunburst as well as a classic boxer sound for the sunburst too over the next day or so, probably the boxer first unless I find a mega Evo sample.

Pops and crackles I will also attempt to manualy change but I have no idea how to reference specific sounds yet so don't hold your breaths lol :D.

So it seems the repo has gone to sleep again...I guess, now because of Easter holiday so no chance of my mods appearing on it antime before Tuesday I think.

Meanwhile, work begins on an evo sound because the boxer engine sound released for the SBR4 is really nice.

that sounds awesome! I was about to suggest a blurby 4-banger noise but you beat me to it lol. Now to go with it we need a good wastegate noise + turbo flutter

Keep up the good work :)

    Thanks man appreciate it.

As for turbo sounds, not something I'm going to focus on :). Primarily I want to keep this focused on engine audio, exhaust audio and possibly backfires in the future.

A rather weird update for you guys, I've managed to acquire access to some different diesel sounds for the van and possibly a car in the future :).

It's from a Renault Van and also an Diesel Audi too. I need to test the Audi samples out but they should be fine, however the Renault Van I need to check will scale well in game because I only have 8 samples so it may not sound right.

Watch this space for tonight :).

Space watching update! I've been working on a cossy I4 engine which I think has come out sounding really nice, it's a suped up racey I4 sound which fits rather nicely on the Sunburt. I know there is a Ford Sierra mod out there so who know this could be used for that in the future. For now though, this revvy and raspy I4 note sounds really crisy from a total of 32 samples, lemmek now what you guys think below:

As always, fine tuning before release :).

Ooooh that sounds really nice! I'm not a fan of 4 cylinders but that's got some growl. Reminds me a little of the GM Ecotec sound I have in the works!

Gotta love that cossy growl, think we could get a clean 4AGE sound sometime in the future?
