slysenko submitted a new resource: Articulated Frame component for Bus - quick and dirty experiment Read more about this resource...
This was my idea of a bus mod when the DT40L first released (I'm not a modder but someone is got to make an articulated bus)
First of all I'm pretty much surprized by such positive responce, good thing at least now there are several rating from someone who did not read the description - otherwise is looked like something broken down in the matrix with all this five star ratings one after another. I'm going to finalize the beams and textures first, to have some form of "no regression" state. Then I'll work on mods intercompatibility ofcourse. Could you please specify which mod are you talking exactly, so I'll start with it? I was hoping somebody will do it, but finally tired of waiting and did it on my own. For me it was just interesting to drive it on my Logitech G27, but now, it looks like I have to finish it
This is awesome! Would absolutely love to see more stuff like this as it's just exceptionally fun . Great work so far and good luck with it.
Pretty good. The only issue I seem to notice is that when the headlights shatter, there is no texture. It didn't seem to affect the official bus though.
Small update on current progress. First of all, I reworked jbeams by eliminating node groups, shared between front and rear parts. This helped with "unwanted interference" between front and back. Currently making jbeam for flexible part. As soon as we are not going to physically manufacture it , I decided to go to rediculous maximum bending, like 86 degrees or something.
Thanks for noticing, fixed. I put a quick "hack" currently, but definitelly will try to implement that round floor part later
I'd say it would be something along the lines of the DT60L, because most articulated buses are 60 feet long, and the DT40L appears to be 40 feet long.
also what about upgrading the engine a little maybe a bigger 730bhp Truck engine from a Scania if thats doable?
In BeamNG everything is doable, that's the cool thing about it. After some research I did find the "inspiration" for the DT40L, which is Chicago Transit Authority's buses. As well they have a lot of articulated bus as it happened to be: So these articulated ones are hybrids. Do we have any hybrids in BeamNG yet? Futhermore, now I get the reason of "too long" argument - original one has "one window shorter" trailer. Unfortunatelly, to make something shorter/longer in BeamNG, we have to update coordinadtes for every moving node, and there it will be needed to move quite a bunch of stuff around to make in shorter. But hey, let's do it anyway! And even more - let's have three different versions - "real", with one extra window and with 2 extra windows (which will be ridiculously undriveable, therefore interesting) So now I see why there was a certainty that there will be an official articulated version of DT40L.
DT60L sounds more sensible as 40 in the normal one means the lenght (40 ft) and the articulated one should be 60ft. Note to the author: If you'd like some help with eirther modelling or Jbeam, then you can PM me.
Sure, in what time zone are you and when we could team up and think about it a bit? Basically PM me and we will figure that out, as I already have a few ideas about it since I've started work on my version when the bus came out and kind of abandoned it till the official articulated bus will be released.
Electric one would also make sense, but it would require a whole rear end redesign, as it will no longer need the rear hump for the engine and engines would be just positioned in the middle axle.
I was thinking more like all the axles powered actually so a tri motor setup so it could get off the mark smoother
