Never thought that my first standalone vehicle mod will be a sailboat. Before that I never even thought I will step on a sailboat. Thankfully, my father showed me how fun it was to sail and it has been 2 years now. After that I never came back to sailing because my father sold his 2 sailboats. Occam's Razer inspired me with his Pembroke to create a sailboat for BeamNG and my urge to be part of BeamNG was to big. Spoiler: "old" progress I really appreciate tips and ideas regarding realism and technical solutions. Don't expect fast progress, I am currently in high school and starting to learn JBeam. incomplete credits: -50thomatoes50 and rmikebaker with Blender Exporter Plugin -RORMasa with NodeBeamEditor progress (17.06.2018) ------------------------ states: - possible feature - not started - in work - finished ------------------------ - hull - keel - rudder - propeller - mast - retractable sails - authentic ropes - steering wheel - multiple cabins to choose from - railing - anchor - fenders - dinghy - textures - sounds (contribution very appreciated) - compass (no lua knowledge) - sonar (no lua knowledge)
BeamNG could certainly use another boat mod we have an entire section in the repository for them but nothing is in there aside from some old and possibly broken mods Did you make the model?
Not even nearly finished, but thanks anyway Yes, I try to do everything myself, besides that there is no reason for me to take an unfinished model from elsewhere. Thanks and that's another great reason for me to create one.
i really want boat for beamng. good luck! can wait! i have some boat too,but wip idk if i will release my yacht
I like the idea. Which are you going to do for acceleration - up arrow (or a key), or use wind (like the Pembroke). I would much rather have a key/button instead of wind because the wind usually broke the sail.
Here's a video instead. (Sorry for the bad resolution, forgot to configure NVidia Experience, but I think it fullfills its purpose.) I've got no plan for the controls at the moment. Why would I create a sailboat in BeamNG if it wasn't for sailing? nonetheless I will definitely go for a motor engine as an alternative for the sails. Nobody wants to get stuck on the vast ocean. I'm confident that there is a solution for the breaking sails.
I think it's all a matter of configuration and the wind actually moves the ship if you don't set the wind speed to that one of a hurricane.
Even setting it low (such as 30) does nothing. The sails blow but the ship doesn't move. Maybe the ship's size was a factor.
A new beginning On the weekend I continued working on the sailboat and I felt that the hull mesh/jbeam just wasn't appropiate for collision etc. (the hull shouldn't have that many small faces/coltris) and hypothetically there wouldn't be much room for equipment (steering wheel) and people at the same time. So I ended up doing everything from the start. Made a new hull (seperate from cabin now), keel and rudder. I can control the rudder with my G25 just fine.
Less progress but more knowledge This week's beginning I didn't dare to work on the sailboat (more a yacht, I guess). There a two reasons for this: 1. school 2. I didn't even know if I could make the sailboat sail in the end, so every progress could go to waste. So I decided to create a small test sailboat today (yes, I should've done this earlier before this thread, sorry). But nonetheless It seems to sail more or less correctly. (made a video about it) Now that I'm aware of that, I can continue working on the real thing with a good feeling in my stomach.
