Hey, I always miss that feature from Rigs of Rods that i can get out of the car and walking in first person around the whole scene. We have free cam i know, but it is not the same. I want to feel the world. It looks a little bit odd when the vehicle door is not open, but it can be like a missing open door fuction in the quick select menu. And from that, it would be also cool to able to collide with the objects. I mean that the camera is falling to the ground and get some cracks maybe if we get hit by a vehicle. Just something like in the way of Watch Dogs 2 handy camera movement. It feels pretty realistic. No need to have a fully ridged body. But idk why BeamNG Drive don't have this, while Rigs of Rods got it. have a nice day
There is an good reason why BeamNG.drive doesn't do this, while ROR does. Unlike ROR, this uses an updated simulator of ROR, but more of the physics instead of other factors. To be honest, Beam was never made to simulate other factors of real life besides car physics. There was an discussion about this before, and I'll let the others explain it better. Edit: There are 3 cars currently that do have doors open. The two of them are school bus mods from @ThreeDTech21 and the new official Wentward.
But BeamNG Drive gets better and better and more like a overall vehicle simulator. Why not do it? RoR is pretty outdated and BeamNG runs and looks much better.
Developers never planned to do such things, and I'm pretty sure that they confirmed they won't do it. Even games like Wreckfest don't have the driver leave the vehicle. only in the form of flying out of it after an critical crash. Others like The Crew only have cutscenes of drivers dismissing their vehicle, but not in-game.
Ok lets change it to a ridgid dummy that we can control like a player with a attached first person camera.
Wow, i didn't expected that people will vote like that: a free camera is the same thing like a walkable camera.
No it really isn't. With free camera you have to use 6 keys to control 3 axis so you aren't flying or in the ground. Walking would make it much easier. I'd like to be able to do that while still controlling the car and have the view lock on to and follow the car like controlling a full scale R/C car. Get in just the right spot to nail a drift, jump over your virtual self, crash into something etc. the list goes on. Honestly I can't believe that view isn't an option. I don't think I've ever seen a car sim without that view. The external camera is just a disorienting mess constantly shaking, zooming, chaning fov and switching way too often. I remember back in the day I used to love doing the fly by view in microsoft flight simulator with a seperate small cockpit window open so I could see where I was going and watch the fly by. That would be a really cool feature in beamng so you aren't driving blind.
Yea, sure. There are a few mods. But it should be a standard function, because all models have physically a door that move likes that. And all of these models have dettached door models. So it needs only a main script in the quick UI like the hazard lights and such. And that is in the sense of BeamNG drive. Because you can also drive with doors open and crash them into something, or use them as shield or what ever
