Your welcome dudes And big thanks to Reginald who made this awesome map that became the starting point for the longest road amongst BeamNG maps/terrains to date. At least I don't think there are any terrains with a longer continuous road. I've driven this map from the bottom to the top LOTS of times trying to fix what looks bad and stuff since I started making the road many moons ago. I tried to drive to the top yesterday with the default D15, but it wouldn't even get up the first hill. I made it only when I used the rear off road diff, and the supercharged v8 that came in one of the lifted prepped mods of the D15. In regards to the Silverado, the off road version with the 7.4l v8 handles the road awesomely! I have made the roads smoother and better looking now. Still steep and narrow at the steepest and narrowest passages, but It's probably easier to reach the top now. I used the "Smooth Heightmap"-function in the terrain editor, and it f'ed up some of the narrowest passages, but I'm working on fixing that. When I get done with that I have start on the road around the perimeter of the crater, about half way up. Was hoping to make the road as far up as possible without driving up/down to different levels/steps in the cliff side so that the road is as flat as possible. I have a pretty good Idea on how this will be done. Oh, and if somebody wants to make three road signs that says: "Short way down" with an arrow pointing down under the text, "Long way down" with an arrow to the right on the other, And lastly "Long way up" with an arrow pointing a little bit up and right, I would be extremely grateful I've also thought about adding buildings and a few road signs around the road. Suggestions as to where this should be placed is welcome, also wondering if I should add some trees/forest in various places around the map? I just learned how to use the Forest tool in the editor, and was kinda exited about that Thanks for reading!
Just my opinion, but I like that it was very difficult and required the use of a more extreme off road truck to make it. Perhaps it meant you didn't make it to the top every time or even often, but when or if you did it felt like an accomplishment.
I hope It's not a disappointment when you try the update. I f'ed up with the smooth heightmap function, cause I saved the changes, and then the editor crashed, and I just had an old backup of the map
I did it, I actually did it first try 0.0 I don't even know how. Made it first try with the Gavril D-series Off road. I still cant believe it XD You made an awesome map my man it took me just under an hour to get from the bottom to the top first try, totally worth it...
I have now finished the road around the circumference of the map, a mostly flat road, and are just working on some of the bridges before I release this sometime this weekend.
I took your comment to consideration, and the roads are now even more difficult than the last version. Especially around the steepest and narrow parts. They just look better now. Thanks dude, it's coming along now The stock off road version of the D15 won't make it to the top anymore Thanks dude! I'm glad you guys enjoy it Now for the update! I've as stated earlier made the roads a bit more difficult to drive, and only a few cars will make it to the top. I have also done the mostly flat road around the circumference of the terrain with a lot of bridges and such. MANY hours of work has gone into making the roads look good while being difficult to drive on, and almost every square metre of the road has been revisited. I've placed a few more lakes since my last screenshot update, and I have also added a jump to the spawnpoint on the very top of the mountain. There is also a random chance you will spawn on the bottom of the track as well, as I have placed a spawnpoint to the bottom of the terrain. Here comes the screenshots: Next up is to play around with the forest editor and placing trees and such around the terrain. Suggestions as to how to do this in a way that it looks good is welcome! Oh, and i was planning on adding more roads. maybe harder ones also! Download newest Version 0.1 here: View attachment Leap-Of-DeathV0.1.zip I hope you will enjoy the update, and look forward to feedback and further suggestions!
That is strange... the file is present in the Zip. Have you tried downloading and unpacking the file again? Is anybody else having this problem?
yes but the game wants the file called Leap-Of-DeathVersjon0.3\art\shapes\RoadBarrier-01a.dae and the folder is called Leap-of-Death without the Versjon0.3
This is random. I've never spawned more than 4-5 times at the bottom the times I've loaded the map at a time. Same at the top. If you'd like, I could remove the bottom spawnsphere and upload that version?
I tried getting an airplane and flying to the top and setting a spawn point there. Now it always spawns there each time, which is fine with me anyway. I wouldn't bother changing anything unless other people are having trouble as well. Haven't had a chance to try to path yet as I haven't really had time for anything at all since I downloaded this. I look forward to giving it a go
If you want, you could open the level editor, hit F1 for object editor, and delete the spawnpoint at the bottom and save the level, then you will always spawn at the top. Also, if you use F8, you get free camera, and fly to where you want to spawn and hit F7 to spawn your car. I'm looking forward to some feedback
I never knew that about the free camera. That's a great tip. I managed the course from the bottom of the canyon to a little ways above the dam. I liked it so far. I have had difficulty because I like to use the '86 or so Silverado, and as mentioned in other posts when you use the automatic it tends to prevent the truck from climbing some mountains so it is necessary to put the truck into manual 1st gear. I've had better luck with this. As I've mentioned, I know jack squat about the first thing when it comes to making these maps, so I want to be clear that this is not a complaint. I know you're looking for feedback so I'm not sure if this is helpful or maybe this is just part of how it is. I've noticed on some parts of the path the wheel of the truck seems to drive up the side of the mountain when the mountain itself is a few feet away from the tire, as though there is an invisible part of the hill extruding out. If I didn't state that clearly enough I can try to elaborate. Again, this may be normal, but I have noticed it. I have an old steering wheel and pedals (thrustmaster II) from the late 90s that I will probably need to see if I can somehow get working because the keyboard, for me, is so jerky it makes navigating smoothly almost impossible when I get on the narrow cliffs. I like it because it's challenging, but I really hope to get my wheel and pedals working to get incremental inputs rather than the all or nothing that the keyboard gives.
About the "invisible" parts of the hill, it is something I've never been able to figure out how to get rid of completely I'm afraid :/ The only way I got rid of them most places was to completely redesign the part of the road they were present at. Some places just are to hard to redesign, as they follow the natural flow of the mountain. And instead of using a wheel, I just use an usb pc version of a x360 controller. Works MUCHO better than the keyboard. They are cheap too, and the game autodetects it.
