Just recently I heard about it through PewDiePie talking about it in this Pew News video. Basically, at around 12:18 minutes into the video, Felix mentions that Elon proposed a site where you can rate a news media's credibility and truthfulness.

While it was apparently a joke, I like the idea of Pravda. I think something like it would be a good way to combat media bias without violating the rights of free speech and freedom of the press. Let's face it, some news medias don't use their power fairly, and anything they say is protected by anything that guarantees free speech and freedom of the press, I.E. the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

I would've talked about this in General Discussion if we still had it.

Russian name...why isn't the whole left freaking out about it? Just look: a website with a russian name is going to evaluate Western news credibility...

TBH, we can already do such things in other forms. Don't know why we would really need a website dedicated to this, when you can make a video or comment about it on YouTube.

This would open up the possibility to see stats on how people view each media company though.

It's like what PewDiePie said in his video, it would be something similar to Rotten Tomatoes.

As a side note, how much you want to bet CNN would have an extremely low rating? With everything I hear about them, such as Trump calling them "fake news," I wouldn't be surprised.

CNN would be no worse off then Fox. Both would get really bad reviews I bet.

Naming such a site like the Soviet propaganda mouthpiece is like naming an anti-war organization "Kalashnikov".

That was another one I thought about. I've heard mixed reactions about Fox.

I'm not 100% sure if that's where they'd be getting the name from.

I've heard that pravda, or правда, translates to "truth."

But what about the people who don't use those?

Here's an interesting fact, Stan Lee supports Musk's idea. Here's what Stan said on Twitter, and I have to say I agree.
What I agree with, is that we do have journalists who are honest and works hard to bring good news coverage to people, but we also got some who will try to push biased lies about something that could easily classify as propaganda. I'm pretty sure those kind of news outlets would get low ratings on a site like Pravda.

Nobody cares about facts anymore, it's all fee-fees. Wait till Pravda gets stormed by basement-dwelling /pol/yps and Alex Freakin' Jones is ranked as a "reliable news source." (To be fair, he's sort of right about the frogs...) The problem with any ranking system, as Elon Musk proposes, is that it is easily manipulated by people with axes to grind. Maybe there are some algorithms he could use to secure it? Machine learning? Blockchain?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be another far-right vs far-left internet battle ground.

That's the exact point, it's a satirical name based on the name of a Russian publication notorious for faking things
    --- Post updated ---
He also registered it officially last year, so probably not a joke, and consider his background and track record for filtering through on this sorta stuff...

Totally agree, it's possible for some idiots to rate untrustworthy news as credible.
I'd just stick to chat-rooms if I'd want to talk about news credibility.
