Heyya! I apologize not being very active over the last couple of weeks or so. I've been really busy with finals and stuff, and haven't really had much time to work on any mods, or at least not anything major. Fortunately though, things are starting to quiet down a bit, and I’ve managed to get a decent amount of work done on the front suspension for the Aria. (^.^) I used the Sunburst’s suspension as a reference point/template, but the actual structure of the jbeam is completely from scratch. As of now, nearly everything is functional, but things like the steering could definitely use a bit of fine-tuning. The only major problem right now is that I’m getting a VY node error on the wheels. I’m really not sure what’s causing this, as (to my knowledge) VY errors usually come from when you assign a flexbody to a two dimensional group of beams. This instance of the error is really weird, as it’s seemingly resulting from the wheels themselves, which aren’t even a part of my suspension jbeam. They’re just imported from the common four-lug wheel directory that a lot of the official vehicles use. Knowing me, I’m probably overlooking something reeeeally obvious, so if anyone knows what the problem is, please let me know! (*´ω`*) I’m also considering just using a vehicle-specific wheel system (like the Pigeon or T-Series), as it might be easier to fix the VY error that way, and most of the four-lug wheels are simply far too big for the Aria anyways. I’m definitely going to be making some custom wheels for the Aria, and I could easily just scale down and modify some of the stock wheels as well. So... yeah! Progress is a bit slow right now, but it’s going really well for the most part! For this mod, I’m trying to really up the quality compared to the mess that was the Kashira... (〃ω〃) I also have some really cool ideas planned for the Aria so stay tuned! It should be a lot of fun! (*'▽'*)
if you could make some custom 13x7 4 lug wheels that work universally, that would be super awesome. i love putting tiny wheels on the covet, i think it looks a lot better than like 17 or 18 inch rims. will it have a simple fun interior like this honda beat? or something more advanced like this s660? i'm still unsure what year your car is. kei cars all looked somewhat similar to me, from 1980 to like 2000. very excited nonetheless!!
Doing some more work on the tutorial. The car will be relativily simple but with some details to focus on. It will be published on the forums when ready. I will post progress here and write the tutorial on Discord.
Here's the location of the pillar. I don't think you can move it any further to make the front door shorter.
@Re:Z_IA If you need wheels, feel free to shoot me a PM Also, I could help with fine-tuning suspension and steering (idk about jbeam, but Ik how it works IRL and how to translate it into n/b so this can't be that much different)
Maybe you could extend rear door from handle height towards rear which seems to be case with 4 door vehicles with such angled roof? That rear window is also usually angled other way, but then again you are making a coupe and these are sedans, but maybe there is something useful.
It does slope upwards, but just a little bit. The rear window is actually angled the same way, what you see is a quarterglass separated by a (currently hidden) pillar. I refer to my car as a sedan.
That’s a fantastic idea! I’ll definitely see about making some small wheels for the common wheel hub! (╹◡╹) The interior is going to be fairly simple, but with a pretty modern design. I’d sketched out kinda what I was thinking when I first started, but it’ll almost certainly have to change a bit in the future. Right now, it’s mostly oriented around a (relatively) large-ish, vertically-mounted, infotainment system in the middle, which is pretty unusual for a kei car, since there’s such limited space. Usually the screen is mounted above the dash (like the picture below), as that’s really the only place it can fit. Considering this, my original design likely won’t entirely work, but I’ll likely be using similar design cues in the final design, just without the massive screen. I’m definitely going to have to play around with the interior a bit to get everything to fit nicely, but that should be the general idea. (^.^) The Aria is going to probably be around the 2016-2019 timeframe. The design is pretty basic right now, but I’m going to be adding some “interest” to the bodywork that should make it look a lot more modern. It won’t be anything too crazy, but I think adding some depth around the wheel arches and sides will make it look a lot nicer. The Honda N Wgn is a good example of this. It’s a pretty simple design, but the depth to the bodywork makes it look a lot more modern. (*^^*)
Did you notice 911 being mirrored? I guess that is still WIP, looks good so far! I get migraines from staring screen, so today I have barely been able to stand at all. Hopefully I get to work on texture stuff late at evening. UV map of exhaust manifold has not been very easy to do, might need to do it face by face to get rid of sharp contrast difference at part of tubes. Adding little details to Ibishu motor makes it look much better. I got migraine when I was doing this road, there is lot of terrain alteration needed, very slow and tedious work, also some rock texture layer needs to be added etc.
That's awesome! I've been wanting to create a mod, but the process of taking the 3D model and turning into working BeamNG vehicle seems daunting to me.
There are also heightmaps available from mars, in 1px 1 meter resolution: https://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/dtm/ What on Mars you would do with an crater though, certainly can't be fun with placing ramps and stuff Not sure how those could be used, but I guess those might be some interest for more curious ones.
Well not to break your hopes or anything, but you can't drive on the planet, it's just a body that you can view for screenshots and just for fun. I can always make a map that you can drive on mars --- Post updated --- Mars? BORING.
I thought they would be up for a scale: "are we there yet?" Short and soon in space are bit different from autobahn.
I legit had the idea to one day attempt to make a Mars map. I haven't attempted to start because of my underpowered system.
I guess you could take a small piece of Mars height map and make it 2km by 2km island, I'm just not certain which program you need to convert .img DEM file to Torque 3D heightmap and even less of how to make that happen, it might be that one program which name I have forgotten that was difficult to use. After getting heightmap converted it might not take too much of computing power. That would be drivable mars map of course, which is small piece of Mars instead of whole gigantic planet, which might be much more challenging to make. There might be some interesting rock crawling possibilities on Mars too, in 1:1 scale, as moon has been already covered Mars is only logical next location to build to
There would be no way you could make the entire planet of Mars. Not only would it take ages to make, but I doubt that there's any computer today that could handle both the map and BeamNG at the same time. WCA and some of the other more powerful BeamNG maps would be nothing compared to a map that covers all of Mars. I'd probably only work on specific highlight regions of the Martian surface. And with my system, if I was to start right now, I would have a couple of things to deal with, slower loading times, and that freezing only BeamNG does that I still can't figure out, which has largely decreased how often I even play BeamNG. It won't be until I have a better system before I even start making any maps.
