Anyone here on this site a micro/little storm chaser of their own? I am for sure! But one bad thing is I've never actually seen a tornado, I've seen a whole lot of funnels though. This thread is mainly for little storm chasing stories if you have any, or just some cool weather stories/phenomenons. I'm just wondering to see if anyone here also storm chases, since you can't really make weather in BeamNG, our best option is a thread i guess
I got a Jeep Wrangler to go storm chasing. But I don't have the $30,000 required for it to be storm ready and the actual storm chasing.
LOL that’s the WORST vehicle for storm chasing! Light-ish and flat sides are a bad combo! Best is a dually pickup with a tank body on it like the pros do.
Nah, a Isetta will never handle a tornado. TBH, I'd grab a E-Class (W212) Estate AMG, re-structure it (and armor it), and equip it with off-road wheels just in-case. That's probably my idea for a storm chaser, though I'm sure there's already other cars often used for storm chasing.
I used a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder SE, Not very heavy, but 265 Horsepower V6 Got a 4500 pound SUV Going pretty quick!
I don't have 500k and the proper licensing and materials for that and the Clay roads out in the Midwest USA is like trying to drive on ice when they get wet. I want 10k for a hydraulic system to lower the jeep and with the caging I hope to put on. Example Also it can drive over trees or pull trees out of the way.
Yeah, I get that, but the best cars are the ones with the least side profile and the most weight. Wide tracks help too.
Here's a picture of a good example of a very heavy great storm chasing SUV: But again, it's very long, so if this vehicle were to encounter strong winds probably above 120 MPH, The rear of the vehicle would tail-fin and most likely end up stuck in a ditch, then your screwed for sure. And not to add the height of the truck. The higher a(n) vehicle sits above the ground, the higher chance it has of getting lifted into the air, no matter the gross weight of the vehicle. You could have a 40k+ pound truck, but if it's 2 feet in the air, you will get picked and rolled easier than a 1500 pound car. Weight, Ride height, and length are 3 strong factors in a storm chasing vehicle. That's why i picked the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, it's low, heavy, it has power, and it's not very long. And there plenty of room for the weather stuff, such as probes and scanners, i could go on.
My stepdad is a storm chaser and we went out on a hunt on Sunday. It was in New Mexico too, so we didn't even drive that far. that is hail. clouds I have seen around a half-dozen tornadoes in the past few years. Here is a photo from 2011, but I don't remember where.
Amazing! I've got darn close to seeing a tornado, a funnel cloud was just about to touch until the storm lost power due to the cold front cutting it off
...and a Isetta will fly off into the tornado immediately easier than a semi dealing with Wyoming wind gusts.
