Developers of BeamNG gave this new tool to us, haven't seen much discussion about it, so thought that I make discussion, maybe we can share tips and tricks here.

Without really not knowing anything about the tool, I started to push buttons randomly and ended up with such tiny track:

First I did try to move track directly in 3D view as there was green and white spheres, but that did not work out, then after testing buttons I found out that you press twice button straight/turn/whatever you like to get one piece of track laid down.

Making end piece to line up with start piece was tricky at first, but then I relized that piece named offset can be adjusted so that it makes end piece line up with start piece.

Hills do require some more learning as I ended up having quite bumpy hills, maybe piece length needs adjusting or something else?

However this tool is really awesome, I started to think how one could make all Formula 1 race tracks in miniaturized (and more interesting) versions, only how to get map of track to show up in game world? Maybe it would be possible to make a vehicle that is just a plane/box with map of track as texture?

I got idea of to load track I made on some other map, West coast USA, but there seems to be slight issue of invisibility, not sure if others have encountered similar issue?

Another idea I got was to generate an island height map in Bryce 3D, then use Track builder to lay down roads and use adjust to object brush tool in terrain editor to make roadways for decal roads, not sure if that would work or if it is possible to make work?

That might be quite interesting way of building worlds.
It could be possible to even code automation so that terrain adjusts to track builder road with single click, possibilities to of that would be quite interesting.

    Update:
Also I'm getting this quite often, if I click track builder icon right after loading a map.

So as I was not perfectly happy with being limited to do track builder tracks on endless flat grid, I did fix the bug where track was invisible on other maps:
    upload_2018-6-4_15-51-11.png

Fix is quite simple, problem of invisible track comes from the fact that procedural track is looking for material, that does not exists in other maps, but only in map called small grid.

    Copy misc folder from:
    BeamNG.drive\content\levels\smallgrid.zip\levels\smallgrid\art\shapes

Paste it to your map like so:

And there you have it, working track builder on your map, it is easy to make work with any map as you just need to put that misc folder inside levels\whatevermapyouwant\art\shapes:

Of course in theory that makes it possible to change textures or even ground model of track builder tracks, for example having mud track etc.

No more boring plain surroundings with track builder, you can now build whatever awesome scenery you want to have with your tracks, if you think Utah has too few roads, no problem as now you have power of track builder to build roads of your dreams in Utah or any map ever created!

Go create that awesome masterpiece of highest quality, right today, success and fame awaits!:

The issue where the track is not visible on some maps will be fixed in a future update.

That is really great as it makes track builder much more interesting to use.

While I was thinking here, I figured out that it could be possible to make maps which could be kind of platforms for track builder tracks, you could have numerous possible combinations on one map, but then it might be useful if there would be way to tell which track is meant for which map.

That would be either some sort of tag system or just simply adding name of map to track name when saving.

Possibilities are quite huge for this, sadly my lack of skill limits a bit, but definitely this system has huge potential.

Hello! How can I change map decorations to normally looking empty grid track in editor?

I just cant see this option in builder and options menu. Tryed to delete glow_city.zip in level folder but it just prevent to open builder after that, neither replacing glow_city.zip contents with files from other map files from that folder. Is it even possible to make maps in any other decorations?

Thanks and sorry for reply in old thread, I just cant find this info in my internet.

You can create a track editor track in other maps by loading the wanted map in freeroam, opening the menu with the 'esc' key and clicking on the track editor icon (the figure 8 icon).
You'll be able to play these tracks in time trial mode, they should show up with the other time trials in the map you've selected.

I've been toying with the track-builder as well and it's actually a really powerful tool to design intricate tracks, such as this one.
I'm thinking this could be really helpful if one were to remake a Destruction Derby 1 track/scenario. Would be nice to have the surface already be an AI-driveable decal/mesh road.

I've been toying around further and there's a lot of great options and possibilities like sinking the track and just use it's walls or straight up making ramps.

Is there a way to force a set height at a certain point on smaller pieces? It seems to interpolate where I don't want it to. A ramp something like this: _/‾\_ - left to right, the landing always smooths with top part which is supposed to stay flat. Maybe I'm just using too small distances on the pieces.

It'd also be really cool to have a feature to save/export custom pieces made with this builder for use in other maps and scenarios. I tried packing a prefab with the generated "procMesh1-2" object (in the 2nd screen-shot) but it doesn't work. Same for saving within the level file.
