DEMOLITION DERBY 2018 [DERBY_2K18] A Better & More Realistic "Derby Arenas" Map.Okay keep in mind that this is my VERY first map, so expect some imperfections, but I'm an OCD perfectionist so this will be made perfect eventually.KIND OF-NOT REALLY FEATURED IN WHYBEARE'S VIDEO; Now, I know it's not a video about the map in itself, but knowing that he has it installed is pretty damn amazing, I don't know why but I'm squealing like a little girl on Christmas. I guess that means I should put a rush on the development so he makes a video on it, eh? This map is a 100% remake of the "Derby Arenas" map provided in the stock game. The only items on this map from the original map are the base terrain, textures, and objects(Barriers, Stands, & Buildings). I decided that the default map didn't meet my expectations of a realistic derby map, seeing as most derby arenas in real life aren't on cement, aren't as bumpy as the ones provided and are a tad smaller, so I decided to just remake everything. This map is in a constant state of updates with the future plans listed below. The goal of this map is to create the most realistic & immersive demolition derby map on BeamNG, providing the best derby map to everyone; from my fellow derby lovers & drivers, to off-road lovers and everything in between.FEATURES: No vegetation to make it FPS Friendly. More buildings & objects to increase immersion. Derby Cross (Short Course) track for thrashing & testing. PLANNED PROJECT LIST: RED = Not Started. ORANGE = Work In Progress(WIP). GREEN = COMPLETED. [!!] = Highest Priority. [!!]More Stands & Structures. Figure 8 Track. Sand Pit Derby. [!!]Grass Derby. Mountains Surrounding The Map Area. Mud Derby. Large Derby Area For Bus & Large Equipment Events. Derby Cross Track For Thrashing & Crashing. [!!]Realistic PIT Area. Add Static Objects(Trailers, Campers, etc) To The PIT Areas. Please tell me what you guys think so far! It's not much, but for someone who had no idea that the Terrain Editor was even a thing, I think it's decent. Tell me what other things you might like to see! RELEASED FOR TESTING Keep in mind that this is NOT finished! It only has one arena right now however some people wanted it to be released for testing "As Is", so here it is. Also remember that this will be updated almost daily, so feel free to "Watch" the thread or check back in here daily for new updates. If you're a YouTuber & would like to do a showcase/review/critique of this map as is right now, please feel free to do so and I'll add literally every video sent to me on the main thread. (Hey, free advertising, AmIRight?) Just send me the link via private message or by emailing me, you can find the e-mail below in the "Contact Info" section. (ProTip: My dream right now is for SpeirsTheAmazingHD or WhyBeAre to do a video on this map, since we all know how much they love realism and demolition derbies.)CONTACT INFO FOR BUSINESS INQUIRIES Justin Scott McAndrew JustinScottMcAndrew@yahoo.com DISLAIMER: By downloading this map you agree & understand that this map is a work in progress and in no way is close to being finished....FULL credit goes to the BeamNG developers for the necessary items needed to start this map.
dont you think that car should have less detailed vinyls, like the brick pattern. ive never seen a derby car wrapped before derbying or whatever.
Not sure what you mean to be quite honest with you haha. I do derbies IRL and I've done my car like that exactly last year, sucks I didnt get any pics... do you mean the brightness and vividness of it? Or just the general design? Detailing in a derby car paint scheme is always done, it's just all in how the driver wants to design it For example, I'll throw in some examples of different styles of paint on derby cars; Notice how different they are in regards to detailing? Also the first one being a brick designed car Could you maybe clarify what you meant?
most of those appear to be spray painted, though yours is a bit too perfect. and huh. never seen a vinyl wrapped derby car.
Ooooh I see what you mean now, yes I agree it seems too perfect, it's my first texture remake as well, I'm working on it to fix it, perhaps I'll lower the brightness of the colours and add some noise to make it look more rough. It was mainly just a test to see if it would actually work in game But yes, there are some people who do it for a living and are extremely professional that vinyl wrap their cars instead of spraypainting them, simply because they can afford it due to being huge names in the derby industry and winning a lot; for example; --- Post updated --- Now in my case, I simply suck at painting xD
Yeah I got it working now thank god haha, once I'm finished touching up the mountains I'll release it for testing
I don't really know how those clever graphically skilled guys do their textures, but for me it indeed is bit strong color. What I think is that if you would paint transparent layer with black or some other color, then put that layer on top of your texture it might work, however those who actually can make textures might hang me from such idea, so beware it might be fools path. Another thing I was thinking was that if you would make a layer with base paint color and another layer on top of that using spraycan tool you could then spray paint appropriately poor paintjob where original paint shows little bit trough. Individual layers can be adjusted by how transparent they are. Then at the end you can merge all layers to one, so you can use it as a texture in game. You then end up with something like this, except probably something much better Anyway you can see how color is not perfectly even, it has that 'quality' of spraycan work showing.
I use Paint.Net for my pictures, sadly theres no spraycan on it, I do have gimp but Paint.net just feels smoother and more user friendly for me.
Oh the classic 2011 era of notepad walkthroughs and weird techno type music xD Thanks man thats actually really awesome! Hopefully it works for the new versions as well.
we should be able to pick custome cars while in the derby if possible how long till release --- Post updated --- and r the ai paths gunna be good so they actully chase u and not the walls
[UPDATED] Mud derby ring #1 is 80% finished; PIT area, entrance area, and more stands have been completed. What needs to be done on it; Need to add stuff to the PIT area to increase immersion.(Trailers, Campers, etc etc) Flatten out a few small areas in and around the actual ring. Figure out how to add static(Display) vehicles to the PIT area.(Trailers & such that can't be used) Add an announcers trailer/booth.(Need to know how to add static vehicles) [OTHER THINGS] Finished the mountainous terrain surrounding the map. Added some basic roads. Added a cut through exit in the mountain to (Possibly)expand the map in a further release. Added road barriers to the cut through exit. Should I release it for testing? Let me know your thoughts!
I believe that if you will perfect it without release, you will earn more 'respect' than releasing it in unfinished stage, but then again there will be also lot of people who likes to test it at early stage.
This is an entirely free-roam terrain, since I have no idea how to make scenarios, so you can use whatever car you'd like! I have several demolition derby car packs installed, my goal is to re-texture all the skins to personal skins as I don't like the default ones with the packs, the truck in the screenies for example, I dont like its paint job lol. I can link you to each derby pack I have installed if you'd like, I could possibly even do a custom skin for a derby car for you. Will possibly release it for testing today or tomorrow depending on how busy I get. The AI paths seem fine on my end without even doing anything. I don't know how to program AI paths for them to follow properly, however using the "Menu > AI > Chase me!" Function is what I always use and there's no issues with it other than the fact I'd much rather the AI drive in reverse more instead of forwards to make the derby feel more realistic, anyone know if there's a way to program the AI to go in reverse? --- Post updated --- Very good point, perhaps instead of fully releasing it, I might do request releases? If someone wants to test it during its WIP stage then they PM me or comment here and I give it to them or something, dunno.
ive been around derby my whole life and been running for 15 years myself and we have been wrapping cars in vinyl for some time now
