I noticed that too. My hypothesis is that we saw it in an unfinished state, and I doubt the devs would ever release a map of subpar quality.
I personally don't see a point in re-modelling power poles, barriers, tire walls, etc when there are perfectly good and fitting ones ingame already ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The track shown in the video is WIP, it was not specified. Many of the stuff you saw in there were just placeholder and/or not finished yet.
AM going to be this guy. And say i think that the fact the beam team even made a 3d Map of the test map is pure awesome. And things change. And it may even be the lighting for all we know. ( i think it looks fine ) All the Automation hype ( i am hyped lots to ) Almost made me Forget about the new Air cooled ( what looked to be air colled ) AB car.
Good to know. The limited view we got in the trailer led many, including myself, to believe that was not the case. Keep up the good work!
I don't think they would have it on devblog if it was just going to be a mod. Also I'm curious as to how the tire stacks on some of the corners of the test track will behave. Will they be a solid object, or will they be like the crash barrels in WCA?
A slightly off-topic question: I can't recall at the moment if one or both of these are already in the game, but does anyone know if there are plans to add tire wear/thermals in the future?
Its not really off topic considering this is update speculation... I don't really think there is a length that it needs to be held to as to how far in the future you are speculating, so I don't see a problem with it. Anyways, the way I look at it is like this... they added in Brake Thermals and Engine Thermals into the game. I can't even think (I am sure they exist somewhere out there) of another game that included both of those. (I think project cars has brake fade... but I am not sure about that as I don't play it much myself) So my thoughts on that situation are if they bothered to add in that much detail into the driveline and the brakes... who is to say that they are not at least looking into trying to figure out how to add tire life and thermals into the game as well? I mean it's almost silly to even consider that they wouldn't think about taking that into account as well. I am sure there are plans for it... it's just figuring out the best way to go about it that is the hard part... because... if I know them... they will be monitoring every ruber node individually and keeping track of temperature and wear so the can dynamically calculate a new friction coefficient for that single node. Plus, on top of that, I am sure that they will then take tire thermals to the next level and start playing with how that would adjust the internal tire pressure as the tire heats up and the stiffness of all the beams in the rubber portion of the tire as it heats up. More than likely they will try to add in a few more beam calculation improvements to help take some more load off the CPU before they decide to go and load it back up with all of this. Give it time though... I bet there is probably something sitting on the backburner already.
Tbh i hope they do it simple, not node by node but tyre by tyre. You don't gain much by having each node having it's own temperature, it's computationally expensive, like how we only have a few thermal nodes for fire simulation. Also, does anyone think that the next BeamNG update (cars/maps etc. not automation exporter) is coming before or after the exporter update? Or is that the only new update .
Likely the summer update is the same as the Automation one. They tend to prefer larger updates, so they will probably package them together.
I don't know if anyone else shared this, but here's another cool screenshot of the ETK K-Series Polizei I came across on Nadeox1's Imgur. I look forward to seeing the skins people will make for the K-Series, and making some myself.
The 'AB' car was built in Automation to test the exporter, we're not getting a new car, the devs obviously only showed it so they can sustain a minimal level of hype until there's the courage for doing the unthinkable - agreeing on a release date
Why would the developers come up with a new car company name and logo just for a test car? They could have easily made a test car without any of that. Plus, the screenshot of the engine compartment has sun shining through some sort of grille or vents like what many old rear-engine vehicles have. All of the Automation cars I have seen don't have details like that, they are usually just a shell.
