2019 MV Design Kerberus: My first try on more modern designs, specially on the headlights. I thought would be boring to make it, but once you start, it's actually really fun to test fixture options and find out what works and what doesn't. Naturally aspirated transverse V6, AWD.

Decided to use highter graphics when taking screenshots, and WOW what a difference.

Some beauty shots of the Badge Wagon:

A van variation of the Babylon, the Haulpartner. The pickup truck variant is the Workpartner:

This one is a personal challenge. Making a car last as long as possible on a market. For the fun budget market, the MV Design Nimber. This is the 1962 version. The 1972 is ready and the 1982 is in the making:

The MV... What the heck, its a Mini Cooper stuffed with a 6,1L twin turbo V8 and a RWD solid axle

Introducing the 2000-2002 Avanta (Uh-vawn-tuh) Vue. This van was meant to compete with the Chevrolet Astro/GMC Safari, Ford Econoline series, and the Chevrolet Express/GMC Savannah. This van came with 2 options: Passenger and panel. Passenger of course was meant for families, being able to seat 7 comfortably will also having enough space for storage. The panel version was meant for hard work and carrying various amounts of loads for almost any work related situation. The Vue currently has 3 trims: V6, V8, and the rare V8D. The current trim shown below is the V6 trim with passenger conversions.

After looking at all of these creations, I do have some things I would like to say.

I first want to confess that I haven't played Automation yet so I'm bound to get very obvious information wrong so please correct me if I missed something.

My main opinion about most of these car designs is that they don't really look realistic.

I feel like the bodies of the cars are too smooth and too 'flat'. The surfaces of the bodies lack 'bumps' or 'ridges' in them, which makes them look too perfect or too simple. I also feel like some of the details are too simplistic, especially the front grilles, the headlights and taillights.

For an example, out of all the designs, this car is the only one that feels realistic to me. It's not because it resembles a Tesla or resembles something familiar, but the amount of detail on it, from the body, lights, bumpers, grilles and even the air vents.

Also, in the Automation collaboration video on the BeamNG channel, the car designs from 0:00 - 0:13 and 0:21 - 0:56, in my opinion look relatively more realistic and detailed.

It's really hard to describe what I see about these designs. This is kind of like the uncanny valley, where I can tell the cars don't look realistic but at the same time, can't exactly pinpoint why. I hope that you can understand what I mean.

Maybe I'm just imagining it all and is probably the lighting or the lack of reflections making them look the way they are. When these get exported to BeamNG, they will probably look significantly better than what is shown in these screenshots.

I do look forward to driving these cars and these users have clearly put dedication and creativity into them. These are just some thoughts that I have about them, and some suggested improvements to make them better.

These creations were part of the Automation Design Contest, which probably explains why they looks so good.

The game have smoth bodys and a lot of fixtures for you to create your designs, and it's up to you how complex the car will be. Me and others here are new players, so we don't have much experience in combining fixtures to create complex designs. My only attempt at a modern car, the Kerberus, was based on that new renault alpine concept, because it's a simple and beautyfull car. To create something more complex, like this sedan's front end, requires more experience. Wait and you will see better designs coming out as we get more playing time.

Let me share with you 2 design tips I use. For example, let's say we'll build a 1970 sedan based on the Ford Falcon body.
1 - Open google and type " 1970 sedan ", look at the details of various cars, try to build a general theme on your mind, you don't need to copy anyting, just get a general idea of how was the design at that era. Consider the country of origin too.
2 - You choose the Falcon body? Let's try to make it "not a Falcon". Use fixtures that don't reasemble the original car's. Like, the car have wide tail lights, lets put tall lights instead.

And try a lot of different things, don't leave it with the fist design you build. Copy the car and build variations, delete variations you don't like, until you find that sweet spot.
