Just watched Neilogical's recent early look at the Automation update and if I'm hearing the audio correctly there is all kinds of new road type, tire, and crash sound effects! Woooooo! I've been waiting for this small change for a long time!
Indeed, I've been finding more closed beta videos by various creators. The update is looking really promising.
Oh yeah, forgot that wasn't in the base game and was a mod, I have a mod that does all that and it's lovely, it does really add immersion. Hopefully it's implemented well. It'll also be nice if the engine sounds are overhauled a bit too. (one 4cyl engine sound to be used from diesel ETKs to 1960s Mirimars and 2010 Sunburst)
As Automation exports sounds too, I think that area is covered at least by mods very quickly. I would not be hugely surprised if devs would add few sounds from Automation to their cars as well as that would be quite easy and decent solution. Then again devs do have this habit of pulling awesome surprises on us, so who knows if they have own sound generator slapped in instead of static samples. Anyway, there is some insight to future, maybe: https://www.beamng.com/threads/intake-chuff-sound.53637/#post-873710
If I'm going to be really nitpicking, the engines sound racy, I tried to recreate the big V12 firehawk in automation, but it sounds like a Lambourghini engine, not an old spitfire engine. It sounds too aggressive for a 16L making like 300hp Also I'd love to see fishtail exhausts on something like the Burnside... I can't find a video, I saw a car in real life a few years back that had one and it was amazing, the exhaust was like "chuff chuff chuff" instead of the normal "doof doof doof". Used on vintage cars as it made the exhaust note so much sweeter I suppose. The exhausts also look quite cool. But all the videos I find are motorcycles with loud fishtails. I can't seem to find any like the car I saw, it was probably a 1950-1960 car, had a V8 and sounded so sweet.
Lower compression, that is the trick to get classic sound from Automation, there is of course more to it, but compression ratio seems to affect this a lot. 2l or 6l V8 sounds about same, if everything else is kept same, don't know why it is like that, but that is what I found out playing yesterday. Intake and exhaust affects sound too and many other bits, but compression ratio seems to be the key factor with this too racy sounding issue. Try CR of 7 or so and there should be more of lumpy. One thing I noticed from videos was that sound was perhaps bit cleaner, there is all kind of hiccups in current version sounds, like playing dusty LP at times, but could not hear those issues in videos.
No that's not certain at all. We have only seen the button enabled in a few youtuber vids. That doesn't mean that it's coming. Many have said in the update speculation thread that that button is enabled by default in developer editions of beam and that the button does nothing.
Interesting. Beamng did a good job of trying to keep things secret even with popular YouTubers going ahead and making videos about it.
No, it's not. We are working on it. The buttons are visible on those video just because, but it's not functional in those preview versions.
I had a feeling it wouldn't be released with the new update. It probably would release on the 1.0 update.
I still wonder why all of the tires have the same squeaky sound. Shouldn't the Pigeons wheels squeak high-pitched like styrofoam, and the T-series wheels squawk like a cello?
Yes they should. We're not finished with surface audio yet... but wanted to release what we've got sorted so far.
