So I updated my game yesterday to 0.13. I selected a vehicle with an automatic transmission, and I accelerated with the throttle 50% to the floor. When it changed to 2nd, there was a period of about half a second where the throttle decreased (on it's own) to 25, and then back up to 50. I thought this was an issue with that specific vehicle, so I changed vehicles. The same issue happened with that one too. I tried with another, and the same thing happened yet again. All the vehicles this happened on are BeamNG stock vehicles. Am I the only one experiencing this problem, and can it be fixed?

Seems like you are referring to this:
    https://blog.beamng.com/blog/

It's not a bug, but a requested feature that was implemented.

may we please have it be optional for modders? the CRD suffers from this and can't be fixed from what I hear (as in transmissions in monster trucks are not supposed to do that IRL so we don't want it in-game)

I noticed this change right away as well. It feels very much like an "automatic manual" transmission with a clutch instead of a torque converter.
The 0.3-0.5 sec time between gearshifts is not realistic. The point of the automatic transmission is the smooth gearshifts:
In this video you can see the kind of shifts that is normal when cruising (yes I know is it not a stock automatic)

It can be disabled by setting throttleCoefWhileShifting to 1 in the transmission's vehicleController.

Using parameters from drag autos fixes many issues with old automatic boxes.

I find the the issue is the same with the modern automatics in the game, with vehicles such as the ETK 800.

I think it could be fixed just by lowering the reduced throttle time.

You're complaining that the shifts aren't smooth enough, yet you want faster ones? I guess I must have missunderstood something here? :)

Yes you have :) The more time between shifts the less smooth the drive will get. It feels fine when you floor it, but when you drive at normal cruising speed the reduced throttle between shifts feels very wrong.

So something like percentage of current throttle instead of percentage of total throttle range, would cut it more naturally?

That might do the trick. Unfortunately I don't have the skill to do it myself but I will know when it feels right. I believe that it should be much closer to the way it was implemented before, maybe some sort of middleground if that is possible?

And it totally took away from using nitrous on an automatic. Between the throttle cut time and the time it takes for the nitrous to activate you're over a second of the vehicle falling on it's face. Previous version was much smoother operating. (which ever since nitrous was implemented it has to long of an activation time)

That's exactly how it works currently, the default value of throttleCoefWhileShifting is 0.5, so if the throttle is 1.0, while shifting it will drop to 0.5, if it starts at 0.5, it drops to 0.25, etc.

Sorry, but my experience says otherwise, the longer a given shift takes, the smoother it will feel. The reason is that the clutches need to bring down the engine RPM, the more time they have to do that, the less you will notice. In the video linked above you can actually see it take a good while for the RPMs to fall right at the beginning.

There is no "activation time" for nitrous. Maybe you are mistaken the initial purging state? That happens only once after arming it though (and not at all if using the manual override)

What clutch are you referring to? there is no clutch in a automatic car.
If you see the way the car accelerates in the video at the 0:47 mark. The speed increase is very gradual no "pauses" between gearshifts. It was like this in beamng before the update as well. Now when you accelerate at moderate speed the car will pause between shift as if it is a manuel transmission with a traditional clutch. This is simply not a realistic change.

Autos actually do have a clutch band for every gear fyi.

I find automatic transmissions to be working quite well, at least one I tune myself.
