Jeep is putting a new diesel in the Wrangler, GM put a mini "Duramax" in the Colorado, Ford and Dodge both have a diesel option for their 1/2 tons. Just because diesel cars are going away in Europe doesn't mean anything for other markets or for larger utility vehicles that can actually use the diesel torque.

They are still selling diesels in everyday cars over here in Europe, however popularity is decreased over the uncertainty of their future. For example Ford still sells diesels in everything from the Fiesta to the Transit van.

I don't have numbers, so could be entirely wrong (and probably am), but my understanding is that diesel has never been that popular in economy vehicles in the US, so I would presume even now, they probably still sell more here in Europe than in the US.

Right. Diesel has never really been "a thing" here outside of trucks, partially because, the first time diesel passenger cars were tried here in the early 1980s, diesels were slow, smelly. sounded horrible, and, in GM's case, had a tendency to projectile vomit pieces of themselves all over the road. The Golf & Jetta TDI are pretty much the only exceptions.

Mine stayed in one piece even after I wrecked three sets of rings and at least one rod by adding too much oil like an idiot, I could probably rebuild it if I wasn't banking on finding a remanufacturered 3.4L for about what that would cost, so I'm going to have to respectfully disagree.

All I can say that your 'Murican companies are really late to the Dieselgate party.

They are doing it for better fuel economy in large vehicles, the small car is not doing well here right now

Well, that won't happen when we hit the "electric age" of automobiles where most of the cars being produced in that era are EVs.

Unless Electrogate is coming, which is quite possible. It's ok if you don't believe me - 15 years ago nobody believed that planet-and-money-saving diesels will be trampled by wasteful petrol guzzlers again.

It's an American one. That's the part number the Subaru dealership gave me so I assume they're the same everywhere. Found it on eBay in California.
