    Overclocking my PC.

Hey, we need a hardware sub-sub-forum. :p Anyway, as you all know, I got a new cooler for my CPU. Idle is 20c, load is 71c @ 1.26vcore, all stock. I've heard of people hitting 3.8 with 1.26 and my temps so decided to try and get to that. Turns out I have a retarded intel BIOS and have no voltage or multiplier control, is there a way to override that? Speed fan has a clock option but it's software and doesn't support intel mobos, I could flash a different BIOS, but I might brick my mobo. Also, forum bug report, in IE11 you can't use enter to go down a line. That's why this is a block of text.

EDIT: Back on IE 9. :p
Anyway, on page 4 I am now overclocking my GPU too!

We need a technical forum for reporting bugs for when the game gets out, not a hardware forum. Go to other forums for those questions where you will get much better and more qualified answers than here. TomsHarware is one place to go for a specific question like that.

hehehe, running windows 8 im guessing? and in that windows 8 rt, scince you didnt just download google chrome or something?

ummm, at above post, ... rigs of rods had a hardware thread, so id imagine beamng will have one as well eventually, and at op, have you tried updating your bios version? as mabey intel has an update that allows for that? or(if your cpu has it) you could enabled turbo boost if you havent already

Nope, win 7. IDK why I use IE11

Turbo up to 3.6, I want 3.8+. Got a new BIOS, not unlocked though.

My thread got no help on TH. Been a member on 3 different techie forums for many years. This is the most helpful forum yet, actually. Except for certain super-complicated things.

If you are getting 71 ?C under load with stock settings you shouldn't overlock. What cpu cooler do you have? Because you're getting the same temps as a stock intel cpu cooler... those crap coolers that come when you buy the CPU.

Yep, 10. 11 is in the works though.
Not a voltage oc, and that was 12 hours of p95. Under gaming I get 65. And I have the stock heatsink but with a new fan.

65 ?C when gaming is a lot. I wouldn't overlock. CPU's don't take temperature as well as GPU's. Going past 70?C is not recommended.

If I can find a program that control these things I was planning to set to 1.2vcore and oc from there. 71c is perfectly fine, even for 24/4 use as long as you don't plan to keep it more than 10 years. I've seen some lucky people get 4.0 on the stock 1.26v.

You won't get much difference when you only swap out the fan on the original heatsink.
I would never at least overclock with the original cooler.

C'mon, it's at 71c, that's fine. And it's at stock voltage. Lowering it and doing a mild oc will be fine, I just have no way to do it yet. Also, my ambients were high, about 80f. Now at 70f I get 15c idle, 65 load p95, 58c gaming.

71C is the maximum temperature, you should be getting that with a 2ghz oc with 100% load for an hour and a hot case.

About the no available multiplier, might be your motherboard doesn't allow overclocks, don't you have an OEM pc?

70f = 21c. There is no way in hell you get the temperature down to 15c with a fan unless you have a fridge as a case when the normal temperature in the room is 21c.

I wouldn't recommend overclocking a Dell XPS, plus you might not have the PSU to support overclocking.

I can assure you it didn't happen. It is impossible to get below room temp. Maybe you should change the program you are using to read the temperature because it is reporting lower temperatures. Some years ago that happened to me, realtemp was reporting 10 ?C less than what it actually was. If that's your case then you didn't reach 71 ?C but 81?C

How would I do that? Also that would mean when I got to 98c (max ever, no fan. Whoops) it was 108. 0_o So not that. It's warmer today so only got this. And my max vCore is 1.26!?! Dang... If I could get that to 1.1 or so.

Is there a way to see who made my mobo? I think it's Intel but I hope it isn't. No marks on the thing...
