Probably going to piss off some people posting this but whatever. Over the last 2 weeks or so, one user has been uploading maps, these haven't been the best maps, but some of the people reviewing these should be ashamed of yourselves, from telling the user to "go and die", to calling them names, if you don't like a mod, ignore it, or give it a low rating, but when the user gets harassed for trying to make content, that's too far. Examples: There are more than the ones i've put in this post, but if any of the people that wrote these sees this post, you should be ashamed of yourselves. As it stands reviews don't mean a thing anymore, because people use reviews to harass the user and spamming random crap, and to the people in the screenshots above, you are part of the problem.
Well if they are awful maps deserving of 1 stars for the most part, I dont see the issue. If a review breaks the rules (eg: go die) then report it and it will be removed.
I know what you mean by this the quality hasnt been the best....a review of whats been going on should happen...
There is no issue with rating a map with 1 star, but when 90% of the reviews are harassing the user or just random words like "crap" or "trash", that's doing nothing to help that user improve.
I have found the user in question but I had to report the user account itself but I asked for a review of the reviews on all of his mods, there isnt an easy way to do a "Moderator Review of Game modifications reviews" if you know what I mean....
Current system is pointless and I doubt anyone is taking ratings and reviews very seriously as a result. Reviews too often are lacking any form of proper arguent, ratings (either 1-star or 5-stars, with nothing inbetween) are being misused as a way to please or harass modders, while actual content rarely deserves such a high rating, nevermind one so low...
Some people think that communication over internet would not have same rules as communication face to face, well it does, actually there are even more rules. There used to be Netiquette, but at this era of puking emotion without any self control nobody cares anymore and result can be seen in those reviews. While this user has also suffering bit of same issue for uploading content that is not much effort put in, certainly it is not right way to comment like some of those people have been commenting. Sure sometimes it is also case of failing in attempt of outputting one's thought, probably not quite all are intending to be so rude and harsh, but stupid thing in humans is that if one acts as a jerk, soon crowd follows. Humans have certain odd feature, if some authority orders person to inflict pain to another person in name of science, law, religion etc. that part of self moderation shuts off in brain and quite normal person can torture another rather cruel ways, humans forget to stop, look situation outside of his/her own perspective and there is no critical thinking. These days it is worse than it used to be, thanks to few really bright concept of person being happiest when he expresses emotions freely etc. So that then leads to situations where few rude reviews cause flood of them, similar is reason behind drama tsunamis on this board as well as few other crazy things on net. Everyone fails now and then, but generally quality of anything tends to improve with amount of effort put into it, same goes for reviews too.
My problem with reviews is that they are tied to your person, if I went on the repo right now and gave everyone the rating they deserve I would probably recieve bad ratings on my mod as a result. I think there should be a simple 1-5 star scale without text and without usernames.
I put a low rating on a mod and the creator spammed my mods with bad reviews, those were removed after a quick report.
Or, no rating at all, knowing the widespread inability of users to judge things rationally. Do we really need a rating system? Current one is so disfunctional it's more or less like not having it at all...
Ahh okay, yeah, I know the user you are talking about in #1 I had to report his profile to get attention to it I mean that account was opened on the 1st August and its now the 17th August and hes spammed 11 mods so far and they have not been of the most brilliant of quality
When you act mature in other places but you tell people to go die and call them names in reviews because you won't face consequences for it
It does work, sure there are 5 start mods that are not the best, but think about how many times there has been 3 stars or less and mod has been something that really is not worth the time to download? So it is better than nothing, even it is not absolute truth.
I feel the reviews need to be looked into at this moment its been quite shocking to see some of them its not been good I mean the abuse you get but then again you can report the abusive reviews and get them removed
Considering star rating work for every other website in the world they will work just fine here. As MrAngry said though, making them rating only with no name or anything attached is probably a good idea.
I guess the names should be only visible to the Moderators and Admins of the site, as for the reviews it should be only be specific so you can review them
Don't you think it would be awfully easy for certain destructive persons to abuse 1 star rating without their name being public? Then again you would think people would think twice before posting review when their name is public, but clearly that is not happening. Certainly devs have had all kind of experiences during the years and perhaps they have even tested anonymous ratings before? I would trust them to know how ratings should be and I think that on earlier occasions they did state they want it way it is or something like that?
