My idea would be with several models to please everyone -luxury -ca special (like the lux, but convertible and the same ca special stuff from the mustang) -level 1 performance (so an ecoboost) -level 2 performance -level 3 performance The performance models would be the Corvette competitors, like what it originally was. Any other ideas?
The "new but old" style of cars (like the pt cruiser or HHR is a thing of the past, and I don't want the T-Bird to go down as just another boring sedan.
1990 Ford Thunderbird: 1980 Ford Thunderbird: It already has undergone it's "boring sedan" phase, so, if they're going to bring it back let's pray it won't be a rebadged coupe Ford Fusion.
It would be a crossover, since Ford is now straying away from sedans and coupes (except the Mustang).
The next edition of the Thunderbird would be the same ol' coupe as it's consistently seen. Ford wouldn't be able to pull something off like that because the latest edition of the Thunderbird died spectacularly in 2004. The car also wouldn't be sold in Europe, as the new Thunderbird would most likely come with a big engine and guess how the Mustang's doing in Europe. It'd stay in America, stay as a coupe, and atleast keep a V8 engine
Unlikely will be a coupe, as the fact that the Thunderbird has transformed from a sporty vehicle into a semi-luxurious vehicle and that Ford (in the US) is already killing off vehicles like the Fusion and Taurus in a few years. I also doubt that it will have a V8 either, more likely a V6 instead.
All of the previous generations of Thunderbird have been coupe models. Also, what is an American sports/luxury coupe without a V8?
1. Wrong. There have been the occasional sedans here and there, and many convertibles. 2. What is your logic of making the Thunderbird a coupe when everything that isn't a Mustang will become a crossover?
All of the previous main models of Thunderbird have been coupes. Because the Thunderbird's main appeal would to be a coupe, as it always has been over the last couple of generations. What is the point in naming a crossover the Thunderbird, Ford's naming scheme is admittedly dumb but they're not dumb enough to name a crossover/SUV the Thunderbird SUV.
I guess you forgot they were planning to name a crossover a Mach 1, and are considering a Maverick crossover. Plus, the car wouldn't even be sporty enough to partner up with the Mustang, as the last of the Thunderbirds were more luxury than sporty.
They've already done the Maverick in Europe. Also, the Mach 1 name was likely a placeholder, no company would ever name a car that.
I meant as in not a rebadge, but a entire new crossover. --- Post updated --- Also, the only reason they changed the name from Mach 1 was the backlash from fans, not because it was a name placeholder.
I doubt they would bring it back as a crossover, at least not entirely. There's going to be a electric mustang crossover in 2020, if it were to be a crossover, that would probably be the case. Making it entirely a crossover or sedan would be worse than when dodge made the charger a 4 door.
I doubt they'd ever bring it back it all. It failed in the 90s, failed in the 2000s, and I think Ford is better leaving the Thunderbird nameplate dead.
