amd kind of made me a bit mad with them when i got my 5400k. The stock heatsink isn't enough to keep the cpu under it's 70c max temp at stock clocks. That sucks, and it's probably worse with the a8 and a10
My A8-3850 has a 107 watt TDP and it stayed well within safe temps when I had the stock heatsink on it.. (Stays under 120F now that I have an AIO.) My dad does have temperature problems with his Phenom 965 black on the stock heatsink. (He has the higher end stock heatsink, the one with heat pipes.) Until he gets a better heatsink or an AIO he undervolted the CPU. (He does a lot of photo and video rendering.)
I think they ship different HSFs depending on the TDP grouping. My 95w 870 and the 83w(?) 750 shipped with the same HSF. The newer 85w CPUs probably keep the same cooler. Intel ships a slightly smaller one with their 62w and an even smaller one with the low end i3 and pentiums.
used stock paste, aftermarket, different amounts. nope. over heated each time. My case airflow is fine too
Mine looked like this: I think my dad's looks like this one: So yeah. - - - Updated - - - Hmm.. You sure the fan is running max speed? If your CPU voltage is set to auto in the BIOS manually set it to whatever your stock voltage is. If it still overheats maybe try seeing if you can get a stable undervolt without having to reduce clocks? I undervolted my laptop by over .2v and now it runs under 140F with the fan on low. My CPU, as I said, has a 107W TDP and uses the crappier stock heatsink above. Still stayed under overheat temps.. I think I used the stock paste. Maybe it is a issue with the IHS. If you feel up to it you could try to delid it. (I tried it with one of my 8800GTS cards and sliced into the chip itself.. Killed it..)
Hmm. My CPU runs a bit under 1.4v max. Right now it's hovering around 1-1.3v. You sure the thermal paste is on correctly and the fan is running max speed? Do you have any program for controlling that kinda stuff in-OS? (My motherboard uses MSI Control Center. Let's me change all the overclocking and fan speed stuff.)
I've been keeping my eye on the 280x and it is seeing even more price drops. Right now it is around $350-370 - - - Updated - - - I've been looking at newegg's site and the minimum required PSU wattage is 750W, but that seems high. I know they draw a lot of power, but that is insane. I've used various PSU calculators and it recommends a 470W PSU. AMD's website says it only needs a 6 pin and an 8 pin power connector. My 600W PSU has two 6+2 pin power connectors so I'd assume that would be fine.
Alright cool. I did some research and Tiny Tom Logan powered a 780ti and an i7 with a 450W PSU and ran furmark and it worked fine.
We just got overtaken by folding@doge. They're a new team that got over 1m ppd. Congrats to them. We're also about to overtake folding while nude. Whatever.
Technically, at one point or another, everyone is folding nude. I leave my computer folding when I take a shower
Since I'm folding on my computer and actually producing points rather than WUs I should be moving up in the list soon.
You shower naked? What a slut! Not rly. I try to avoid posting in this thread because I don' fold and that means I'm not worthy.
#ballin But really, I'd like to fold, but my laziness has hindered me from actually starting. I downloaded the thing then it was like "set up an account" and all of this stuff then I was all like "ah stahp. I dont even know" then I had a breakdown and spent an hour on the floor crying. So yeah that's how it goes.
Well now there is the ability to fold in your browser. I believe it is through chrome. I know Cwazywazy used it, so he can link it to you. But it is supposed to be easy setup for folding if you wanna give it a shot.
Yep. (imported from here) It's an extension so you need a google account. (The only reason I got one) Minimal setup, lots of WUs. EDIT: How does my profile have 7k visits? EDIT2: I'm coming to get you HEMI!
