My father seems to be shopping around for a new car.

He is thinking about splurging up for a brand-new, warrantied car, and the base 1.6 turbo DCT Kia Optima is what caught our eye.

A bit above our 100k PLN budget, but it has an unmatched 7-year warranty, plus more equipment and power than similarily-priced Euro midsizers (the Japanese are outside this price league).

The Corolla would either be my first car or get sold on. If it gets sold, I'd probably buy some premium or sporty-ish compact/midsizer (Ford Focus, Lexus IS200, Alfa Romeo 159, etc.)

Are you buying a car or an engine?

If so, there are much better alternatives. Car is much more than engine.

Literally anything. Even Lada (at least they are easily and permanently fixable, unlike Alfa's chronical breakdowns).

Apparently Ford has known of the issue since 2012, and was forced to do product recalls in the US in 2014. Despite that they didn't recall cars in the UK, despite the same fire based issues.

    Tell that to Ford :p

According to the article they were offered a discounted price on new engines (for the cars that weren't totalled). My understanding is that this is common practice for engine failures on cars that are still fairly new regardless of warranty (with most brands).

But ofc Ford only offer their cars with 3 year warranties, so I imagine a lot of people with issues will have been outside of that window. Perhaps this is part of the reason they don't sell cars with 5 or 7 year warranties like some other brands...
