A diesel Jetta/Golf are in general reliable, but domestic cars are your best bet no matter your region because it is easier to find parts made in your home country.
Not necessarily. Go with something popular in your area and parts should be plentiful. At least that's the way it seems with parts at local auto parts stores. The Honda Civic is the most popular car in my area, and is what I drive. Zero problems getting anything I need for it.
Thats what I mean. I guess my opinion is slightly skewed, because where I live the junkyards are full of late 90s and early 2000s American sedans, with most of the japanese cars either riced, complete junk, or have high mileage.
Also even if parts are rare for a car, the price of said parts is more important because you can always buy them online if needed. Try finding parts for a Japanese model online and you'll find tons of them. Certain American cars are good for that too (i.e. Mustang parts are very easy to find).

Apparently, a new explorer (!) based 4 door “mustang” is coming. It will have a twin-turbo V8 and will try (read: miserably fail) to compete with the Panamera. Discuss.
Um, what? No Ford no. STAHP. A Mustang is a Mustang, an Explorer is meh. Don't try and combine the 2.
The new Explorer is gonna be RWD, so maybe that'll be a general shared RWD platform (crossovers, Mustang, 4-door coupe Mustang, RWD Lincoln, etc.)

I've already thought about an A5 Sportback-esque pony car, and I'm sure it would be a good alternative for the classic coupe. However, a Panamera-sized Mustang sedan is doomed to be a failure. Who in their right mind thought this is worth 6K? Save for some parts, it's just crusher food. Of course, repair of such scale is possible, but it either needs a donor that's in much better condition than the restoration object (like in the video) or the needed body sections have to be manufactured from scratch. In this case, around 2/3 of the body would need to be manufactured from scratch, making it a replica with some bits of an old rusty wreck here and there.
