I just recently started using an XBOX controller. Sometimes the cars turn on their own, and other times they don't turn when I want them to. Is there a setting or something to fix this, or is it my controller or something else?

    I suspect wacky deadzones.

A deadzone is pretty much an area where you can turn your wheel or controller just a little bit without it actually doing anything, as I understand it.

Yea, I just looked it up.
Is there an ingame option to adjust it?

I imagine, but you have a better idea than I do, I don’t even own the game.

Yeah, in Options > Controls > "Find and click the bindings related to 'Steering" > Another window will appear on the right with many settings, including deadzones.
A dead zone should not prevent you from turning entirely in a direction. They only cause small movements to not be registered, or small movements to be registered when you did not move the thumbstick.
Try to reset your bindings (Options > Controls > Reset All)

I adjusted the dead zones a couple different ways, and it hasn't made much difference. Is there anything else I could try?

Go to Options > Controls > Hardware and test your thumbstick there.
Is it working correctly? Is it reporting the same inputs you are giving it?

The bar goes all the way to the side, then slowly comes back toward the center while I am still holding the stick. Would this mean the problem is with my controller?

That menu shows the raw inputs the game received.
If it's not working there, it means it's either your controller, or some program that is intercepting your bindings and messing with them.

To try, see if it's Steam doing that.
Go to Steam > Settings > Controller > Controller Settings and make sure no box is checked.
    Close, and check again in-game.

If it works fine now, it means Steam was intercepting and messing with your inputs.

There was one box checked, I unchecked it and it made no difference. So, I'm guessing the problem is with my controller then.

    What do you mean?
The same issue occurs inside the Windows 'Controller Tester' tool?
If yes, then that means the problem is not coming from the game or your PC, but the controller itself.
Possibly the controller is defective, I'd suggest returning it back or get a replacement if it's still possible

Yes, the problem is occurring in the tester. I can't return the controller, so I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Thanks for the help.
