    Hello there,

Since spending time in this game tuning your car to perfection is fun and actually worth your while, I thought about something over and over again. What if the game had smth like a "turbo timer" ?

I might be using the wrong word for it (sorry if I do), but I think it´s that little device that can alter the wastegate actuator from the Turbo which can increase / decrease the turbo´s performance.

And because I play around alot with turbos in Beam, i´d like a little device so I can turn down boost when I´m driving along and turn it up again, when I ´m doing racing or whatever. It would also come in handy in drifting for "on the fly" boost changes etc.

Edit: I meant a boost controller
Thx to SHOme for correcting me.

Like... a wastegate valve? I think is thhe term you're looking for, but I'm no more term savvy than you are on turbo/charge bits

turbo timer allows the car to idle for a set amount of time after the car is "shut off" so the turbo can have coolant circulating as well as oil through it. Shutting a turbo car off, especially after beating on it, is bad for the turbo generally because it no longer is getting cool fluids circulating through it, almost like slamming on the brakes from 80 to zero and staying in 1 place, the brakes will cook that one spot....I think you are looking for a boost controller. There are real world controllers that have knobs on them that lets you adjust the boost pressure on the fly, but if I remember correctly, those should only be used when tuning the car on a dyno, etc. Maybe something like a variable geometry turbo would be cool, like Porsche does.

I think he means something like an "overboost" function, which temporarily increases the boost pressure. I know a few cars come with it stock, although not off the top of my head. Unfortunately beamng doesn't have any sort of function like that, although it does have boost by gear.

the Porsche 997 911 Turbo S had that feature, an overboost of about 5 or 10 seconds or something. That has to do with the variable geometry turbo IIRC

Variable geometry turbine shouldn't have an effect on peak boost, or just let's the turbo spool quicker. Overboost is usually limited to prevent excessive wear on the internals and/or thermal issues.

you can change it in the tuning menu, but not real time. although it should theoretically be possible, it would require knowing how to code a lua file, and the easiest way would probably be a UI app slider for it.

how does the boost by gear work? i havent taken the time to really look into it, since it's been sort of a "silent" update to the game.

It would be like having the setup in real life where you don’t wanna roast the tires on launch soo boost by gear would let you line lock 2 step at the tree pushing 8-10lbs depending on car and then second gear would pull 12lbs and by the time 4th gear come in you can hit 18lbs.

To use boost by gear, just set your target psi as an array, eg. [8, 10, 12, 12],
