    Debatable.

By european classifications, the normal 600 was a "saloon", which is the equivalent of the American-English "sedan".

    From Wikipedia:

Italians called it "berlina", term that can be used for anything not a wagon nor a coupè nor a convertible. However you put it, "sedan" is the only fitting category, and categorizations often vary in time and from place to place - the Brits used to call large convertibles "drophead coupè" while the closed variant was dubbed "fixed head coupè", for example.

Sedan and Coupe isn't defined by the amount of doors but by the interior space there is. You can find 4 door Coupes and 2 door Sedans.

The Beetle... and a every other sedan model with just 2 doors.

No, 2 doors are not enough to be qualified as a coupè. So there you have it, the 2dr sedan:

That might be the american definition.

If we go by the literal meaning of the french coupè (past participle of the verb couper, "cut"), a coupè is simply a car with either a sleeker roofline or a shorter wheelbase than its sedan counterpart.

How is this weird or bad? This is one of the most constructive and civil discussions I've seen in official content/update speculation recently.

How so? A discussion about vehicle classifications, prompted by the core subject of this thread...?

Guys, it's just a CAR, who cares about what kind of bodystyle it is? Does it really matter? Can we just be grateful we're getting a new car at all? If it's that big of a deal then let's just go back to saying it is a Fiat 600 clone and call it a day then. :p

I’m not saying it’s bad or off topic, it’s just strange to see 2 pages of nothing but alternate definitions of sedan and coupe

Well, people found it strange for the Piccolina to be classified as a small saloon, but it's just that in usual european categorizations, and there's really no other category it would logically fit in.

There was an argument similar to this about the SBR4. Let me spare you all some time. It is a shooting brake. Similar to the SBR4, it is a 2-door, rear-engine car with no real rear hatch.

No, shooting brake is a cross between a wagon and a coupè, closer to a wagon bodystyle at the rear and featuring, in most cases, a rear hatch. SBR4 ain't a real shooting brake either, but the definition is kinda fitting anyway.

If anything, the Piccolina is a fastback saloon. It's neither a coupè, nor a wagon, and has no rear hatch at all.

It's as simple as that, really. Let's not try to reinvent the wheel now?

Shooting brake is a type of a wagon. SBR4 is a typical rear engined coupe.

    Ughh...
Guys, could we please take the body style argument somewhere else? I mean, there's more useful things to discuss about rather than what body style it is, the body style thing is just a very stupid thing to discuss about IMO. :|

No, because we're discussing what bodystyle the vehicle this topic is all about actually is.

Way more on topic than pickle jokes and everyone and their dog saying they can't wait for release every other page of the thread...

Debatable. Last few pages of this thread were hardly useful...
