Hi there, seems like you're not the only one with this idea!

I am currently making a three-axle bogie for the trailers as wel as an one-axle bogie.

To come back to your question, you should check out the wiki as well as the default content in the game. To start with modding though, you should start with simple things. Like skinning and making engine tuning stuff, you can learn a lot this way.
