I don't think they deserve hate. MANY people THINK that modders hate automation mods but afaik, most modders don't hate them. There is no competition. (unless we make one like with the Formula B by @fufsgfen ) It's just something different and it cannot and should not be compared. To each their own. This whole automation vs handmade mods discussion is stupid. It's like comparing emoij's with paintings. Both can be shit but they will always be something different.
This doesnt make much sense... when you make a skin or a Automation car or anything that is a mod, you make content for the game. I mean, you could just open a group conversation with all people who made a proper beam vehicle and that would be that
Back in the day, I would come to the forum and see new content in the resources window. That content not always great, but it had effort put into. I found new mods to download, and even if I didn't, it was still making me happy as I saw people making their own content. Now it's a sewer everyone shits their automation exports down. If an actual mod is released it gets buried in hours. I don't even look there anymore - 90% of time there won't be any actual mods. It is easier to get information on new mods through hearsay on the forum. I've seen a lot of people complain that modding is dying. That's not true - all new mods just get lost in the ocean of automation exports. However, I'm not here just to whine. I have an idea for the developers that would largely fix this problem. I present you the new main page design: @developers, if you are reading this, please tell me what are your thoughts on my concept.
Visit this address to find out if hand made mods are released: https://www.beamng.com/resources/ Yes, that small list in corner did change, but all one needs to is to adapt to the change, from that url I posted one can find out desired information like before, surely it is different to use, but information itself has not disappeared, it just is available at different place now.
If you don't like Automation mods, just don't use them. It's that simple. As @fufsgfen mentioned, if you want to see new hand made mods just go here -> https://www.beamng.com/resources/?order=resource_date And if you're complaining about Automation mods showing up in the search tab on the repo, just filter them out in the advanced options of the search tab. I feel like that the hate they get is undeserved. For some people, it's the only way they can make mods, and making Automation mods might just push them to learn 3D modelling, JBeaming, etc to start making actual mods. I personally don't like Automation mods - so I don't use them, but other people might like them, so why remove that option? You can easily avoid Automation mods by just not going to their section on the repository?
B**ch please I am fabulous, I ain't on equal to nobody Now that I have everyone's attention. When did this thread start being about culling people? I mean we could cull the right people instead of people who had some respect, Bakasan, Inertia, Opkraut, etc. I mean we have had people who have confessed to being as young as 11 and people who continuously do the wrong thing.(cough uploading malware cough). Not gonna lie and say that those 3 aforementioned users were always acting the best or nothing but Inertia released mods of decent-high quality, bakasan helped people as did Opkraut. In conclusion the issues with the community stem from who we let terrorize it and who we culled already not who joined in the last 3 years.
If so, why are you against changes proposed by me? --- Post updated --- Automation exports are not mods and need to be fully separate from actual mods.
I think that its fine that they are branching out. I mean, if all we ever got was a new car or level every year, it would get stale quickly, especially since they are basically just mods and there are plenty of them rolling in that are almost impossible to complete with. I only played WCUSA for a couple months before I ran out of interest, while add-ons like Automation are like a gift that keeps on giving and have renewable aspects. My only gripe about that add-on is that there's no utility to make a car pack: Automation has a feature you can make a whole line-up based on a single chassis, but if you add all of those individual cars to Beam, you end up flooding the car menu, which is also designed to work with sub-variants. Just seems like its not fully utilizing either games design structure. I like that they made a separate repo section for Automation cars, and I was worried beforehand that it would cause a mess. It still did because the above lack of car variant support. Track Builder/ Light Runner on the other hand spills over into the Mods section which crowds out hand made mods. As for the Track Builder and Light Runner, it seems like another strategic move to retain gamers interest with a renewable resource. Its also like playing with Hot Wheels or slot cars, which is a fun concept. I build full-scale levels, so its of no interest to me dev-wise, but like other have said, it (and Automation) gets people interested in building things and experiencing the mod development side of the game. I for one have never released a car mod, but it was cool to make some replicas in Automation and test/release them here.
Well... Automation vehicles are ACTUALLY mods, as they change the base game by adding vehicles that aren't available in it by default, so they're MODIFYING the game content thus they are mods It's really not that hard to understand this...
Thats true though. Mine are edited. Some a bit, some a lot. Like the EV i created. My cars might be an exception when it comes to that. There are also a few people that threw Interiors in the cars. But I dont think theyre in the repo
So, if I add an extra bracket to the game's code so it crashes on launch everytime, it will be a mod? Because I'm MODIFYING the game.
All the while, we're straying further from the game itself and trying to figure out the definition of mod...even with 25 pages about the game...I'm not surprised honestly.
Automation cars count as mods because they are modifying the content of the game. Basically anything that modifies the content of the game (whether it's an Automation, map, configuration, siren, or whatever) is still classified as a mod. End. Of. Discussion.
