hello I have a laptop with a gtx 1060 6gb, i7 7750HQ, 16gb of DDr4 RAM and the game installed in a 5200rpm HDD but my framerates at medium settings are from 25fps to 40fps depending in the area, I would honestly expect higher fps if somebody knows a solution and before you ask it isnt in power save mode. Thanks beforehand

What resolution are you run the game at?, Seems like a frame rate one would get at 4k with that config

Do you have ssao enabled and dynamic reflections set to high?

Those two tend to kill framerate thanks to increased single core load for CPU.

120Hz is bit challenging, as if you want smoothest fps you would need vsync in this game and make sure never drop below 120fps, half vsync might work better, but might be challenging to achieve always.

Running many vehicles is also killing fps really quickly. With modern desktop i7 it is 4-5 vehicles on most maps at maximum.

huh, yeah that doesn't seem right at all. I have a 4690k and GTX1070 and I can get an average above 40fps at 4k, at 1080p you should easily be way higher....

I see fufsgfen just replied regarding dynamic reflections to not be set to high and I agree that does kill fps and I set that to low/off.

When did this start? after an beamng update or since you installed beamng?

It is a laptop, thermal throttling is always possibility too, dust can collect up surprisingly quickly and tiny gaps for air get clogged up.

However SSAO off and dynamic reflection off it should be able to do 60fps minimum with single vehicle on any maps, afaik. Discord etc. eat CPU time and lot of fps though, so can be some program on background too.

thanks and it has been always like this and it makes no sense, the only way I get 60fps is at 900p and the laptop is one year old and where it is there is barely dust and i will check SSAO and dynamic reflection

yeah i have them off althouugh i really don´t know about this but msi afterburner (the in-game display) tells me that the gpu is at around 50% although the cpu floats at 30%

CPU load is useless, it does not tell anything, because it is total of all threads, when usually it is only one thread that creates the limiting situation.

Maybe you could download Cinebench R15 and do both CPU tests, it might be that your CPU is under performing to create such situation. It might be some software preventing CPU to reach maximum performance, for example some laptop manufacturers optimal power thing?

Or maybe it has had a fault from the beginning, poor heat transfer from CPU to heatsink for example, I have seen even protective tape of thermal pad not being removed sometime, all kind of odd things happen in manufacturing.

For example in JRI that laptop should easily achieve 60fps or more.

Another thing that came to my mind is that if VSYNC is set to something like performance etc. which actually is limiting fps to half of refresh rate, but then I would except fps to be stable 30 or something.

25fps is still really odd animal.

You need to enable advanced benchmark to see single core test I think, that will usually be reason for odd low fps:

Also with laptop it is possible that it is using integrated graphics instead of dedicated graphics.

You might need to also enable advanced functions ingame:

Then you can click performance (three vertical bars on left 3rd button from the bottom) and such performance graphs appear, make sure vsync or fps limiter is disabled, then hover mouse over CPU graph as shown and it tends to tell also what is limiting your FPS, best done at lowest fps situation.

Another good part of that is that it can show if your computer is using dedicated graphics or not.

in single core cpu test in cinebench i got 151 cb and onced i enabled advanced functions the game ran much better thanks although the performance graphs showed that sometimes the increase in physics made a huge dip in fps due to the cpu if there is any way to fix this i'd appreciate it and if not thankyou for helping me play this game better!!!

Can you post screenshot of those dips, preferrably keep mouse cursor over CPU graph in position of dip, so that numbers show up as those numbers can tell something about what might be causing them.

You can get screenshot by pressing Alt+O and paste link here, or if that does not work, then just press print screen button and paste picture here.

There is still something odd in this as technically your laptop should have no trouble running most of the maps 60fps on high details with ssao and dynamic reflections off.

Have you tested disabling mods? Sometimes mods can cause lot of error spamming to logs which can slow down fps.

Also there was at least one member which had slow performance on low graphics, but on high graphics it was not worse, have you tested on high graphics how it works then?

Thermal throttling is also one thing that slows down laptops often, but if temps are ok, then it would not be that either, but worth to check those temperatures too.

Sometimes some other programs can use CPU while playing game, which slows game down, like antivirus or something else doing scheduled maintenance or Steam downloading updates etc.

I'll check although i won't have my laptop with me until next week, once i have it I'll try and recreate it and post it, and i'll test everything you said thanks
