Before 0.15 most of the vehicle can drive through mud area with no major problem. However since 0.15 mud has gone much deeper, and most map containing mud such as Endurodrome cannot be played(FailRace's Driven till Distruction results cannot be replicated), nearly all vehicles get stuck in mud. Mud pit demolition derby nearly all cars stuck in mud. Only serious off-road vehicle can drive through mud now. Pictures below show vehicles that can drive through mud in 0.14, Stuck in mud in 0.15.
I can confirm that mud physics have changed drastically. The CRD has a few mud maps that have broke because of it. When tested on those maps, the CRD sinks a couple feet into the mud and slides across it like it’s on ice. Even though I hate this change a lot, I still like it as it adds more realism to BeamNG which makes it more of a simulator than a game.
Mud is much better now, you are supposed to get stuck in deep mud, like in deep sand too. Beach sand FWD car with travel trailer is something that should make stucking happen too if we are really looking realistic stucking.
Is there anyway to get it back to previous grip levels as it has broken some of the trails on my glass view mountains map?
We need to check this. If it's causing problems on older maps, we would consider another way to update the groundmodel of those without affecting the drive-ability of older maps.
Its just the depth of the mud that has made my maps not work as intended, maybe add some more ground model options with different depths so that the old maps still use the same one but we have more options. Also not sure if this is already done, but a way to control depth in the editor would be real nice, i could never get depth maps to work for me, and having to edit one every time i add a bit of mud would be too difficult.
Yep, this is something we should have at some point, I recall we have this on our wishlist already for a bit
Second hotfix for 0.15 Fixed other map mud depth, no longer a problem Problem on older maps: Conquistador Gorge Snow is retextured mud become very deep Mount DirtShark Used mud/gravel mixture to simulate dirty surface. At 0.15 vehicle will sink into mud then bounce off when driving onto gravel, damaging suspention. Endurodrome Shallow mud now VERY deep. Second hotfix for 0.15 Fixed other map mud depth, no longer a problem
I thought that mud worked a little like water, where there's a smooth surface set a certain depth above the actual, drivable surface. Is this not the case? -Edit- Apparently that was never the case. I wonder if that's a direction we want to move in - that would also give us the added benefit of realistic uneven depth & submerged rocks. Fortunately, there isn't a lot of mud on official maps, so it wouldn't require a whole lot of terrain editing. As for modded maps, setting the mud groundmodel to have a certain default depth that bevels at the edges might be a feasible solution.
Wait, people still use this old map? I can try to fix it (making it less deep), as well a fixing the looping, adding some stuff that should be there in the first place etc.
Finally some realistic depth to snow! Although not certainly designed, but all that is needed to do is lower roads by that much and there we finally have first realistic snow!
