Hi, I made that map I made to try different smoothing solutions for the tracks of my Nurburg Area map. I'm still trying to find a better smoothness but overall it already quite fun. Based on first reviews, it doesn't approach enough the Nordschleife. As I'm didn't had a recent official version of it recently in a game (my previous most recent racing game was Forza 2...) I admit I wouldn't know much. Hard to compare with videos. So if any of you would like to suggest a model (for which I can ask authorization) I could use to make a better Norsdchleife, please do so here. I might end up making a poll to sort out suggestions. Thanks ! It have just the 20.789 Km decal roads Nordschleife track with rubber trajectory, some trees and objects. https://www.beamng.com/resources/nordschleife-island-caribbean-hell.7227/ I'd love to hear what you think of the smoothness of it and if you have suggestions for a smoother track. Spoiler: Track model and terrain resolution Keep in mind I'm limited by terrain resolution : 4096 for a 8*8Km terrain (1.953125 m squares). In the end I will increase the resolution for this map (because the track can fit in a 6310*6310 Km terrain which would make the squares 1.540527 m) but to fit everything in the other mod the 1.953125m squares are necessary. Should be a tad smoother but that will only be when the Nurburg Area map is released. I made a spline in blender with the central edge of the 3D model of the tracks that I got authorization to use, I used that to make the track larger, and using that model in BeamNG to level the terrain. Enjoy !
I'm guessing looking at the newest game Nordschleife is in is the best option, but idk where you could get a model. possibly you could use the past version that someone ported, as that's from an old, but accurate game.
Thank you for the input. Are you speaking about this one : https://beamng.com/threads/nordschleife-reuploaded-need-help-to-improve-quality.35143/ ?
That is Assetto Corsa version I guess, or same source as this one? This is probably the best Nordschleife: This is Assetto Corsa version: However I think that if there is fences etc. people would give different opinions as now it is bit hard to know which point of track you are and braking points are very challenging ones, so it might not be necessarily accuracy of layout that.
Indeed, there is a huge difference with the one I used (model used here in blue, suggested model in red) Thanks for the input but no studio would authorize me to use one of their models, would they ?
I can give you a nordschleife that runs on Beam. Its not official, not on the forums, but sometime ago someone ripped it from Rfactor(i guess) and the track layout is just perfect. It just has sticky rails and asphalt-like grass, so stick to the road if you don`t wanna break immersion lol Its my favourite track in any game, and i have really high hopes that someone will do it right for BnG someday. Hope it helps. Or at least others can enjoy it too. That`s why i keep outdated mods backed-up =D A dream would be to see the devs make a laser-scan version with all the different ground models since you know, its a german game...rsrs
Do you have any other rare rFactor imports? I'm trying to collect them all. I have many hard to find and deleted maps, maybe possibly trade?
Yes indeed, but they would need licensing too... I've looked around but apparently Germany doesn't share LIDAR data the USA do it . Thanks for the input, in fact I've been making another version out off @Danny Werewolf suggestion. Would yours be the same ? EDIT : I checked, Dyghaun suggestion is the same as Danny Werewolf. Testing pending, meanwhile I'll check around what is the real origin of that version.
I didn't found many other usable models for the Nordschleife than the one from Com8 and others for Rfactor2 (in blue). The other model proposed, I asked here https://www.beamng.com/threads/does-someone-knows-where-wackedmans-nordschleife-comes-from.60589/, might be copyrighted (in red) as it differs a lot from the mod downloaded on Rfactor2 forums. And I found another on a forum, allegedly laser scanned version, surely copyrighted too (in green). As modding guidelines are clear : "You are not allowed to use copyrighted content in your mods." I have to stick to Com8's version. Unless moulding a terrain with it is fine. I mean, no copyrighted content would be in the mod .
I have been rather busy lately, but to chime in on this, I would think that if we put people on blind test of all layouts, there would not be really many that could tell which is which. I find all of them quite enjoyable, there are few turns that you can't take flat on some of the versions, while on laser scanned version you can take those corners flat, but I really would be happy with any version that is pretty as they all are fun to drive
Obviously the most accurate versions are based on laserscanned data. If remember correctly the nürburgring as a company has made exclusivly a laserscan and license it out to different developers(Kunos, Iracing, Slightly Mad etc). Considering they're making a fair buck of it they wont be really happy if a mod is using that data and "gives it out for free". Every other depiction of the nordschleife is more or less accurate. But does it really matter if they're "wrong" in an other way? So why use some ripped model from eg Shift, Pcars1, Forza or that IMHO pretty awful GTR Evolution conversion for Beamng which is floating around here for years. The best version that can be legally used is the one you are already using. Lets not forget that it was one of the better depictions on the PC of the Nordschleife before the official AC (laserscanned) DLC came out 2015. Considering the track resolution of 1.5m/1.9m you're dealing with in beamng why would we even need a laserscan with a resolution within milimeters? One thing that felt off for me were the elevation changes in your version but it could also be an optical illusion because the surroundings(forest, fences, curbs etc) are different/missing compared to the original. IDK Either way i like it how it is. Comparing it with a laserscanned version could help here and there but the best thing would be IMHO increasing the resolution somehow but i guess that wont happen without some extensive work from the beamng devs. Maybe a interesting link for you: https://www.racedepartment.com/threads/every-nurburgring-nordschleife-on-pc-compared.138599/ Edit: Also i really like your creative approach for this map and orange hell. There are already so many games with an realistic approach for this track. There is no need for another one. Its refreshing to have something which tries something different.
Thank you for your feedback. I have settled on using the same model I used. I just need to find what is going on with the altitude and add some curbs/panels for the track. So I'm currently trying to make a good blender setup, but even when I achieve good max and min altitude I still get 0.1-0.3m variations in between. I need to sort this out and then I'll put out a 0.2 version with the 1.5m resolution (that increased smoothness quite a bit). Also thanks for the link, interesting !
