Imagine not being restricted by space, isn´t the length of the I6 preferred since you can spread the weight out? The I6 is also lighter du to the lack of balancing shafts and two sets of cam shafts which might be preferable in some cases.
If your goal is to get close to a 50:50 weight distribution, and your car is front engined, it is desirable to get the engines weight as far back as possible. Engines are heavy component of a car, and any weight in front of the front axle has far bigger effect on weight distribution than weight that is between the axles. This is why Front mid engined cars exist. If you were to magically find a way to make an i6 the same size as a V6 with the same power output (all other things kept the same), then that probably would be desirable. But that isn't possible, therefore space restrictions are something that all cars are going to be subject to. Ignoring that is pointless. You can of course make a cars wheelbase longer in order to accommodate a bigger engine. However, this will change the cars handling characteristics, long wheelbase cars are typically more stable in a straight line, but are not as agile around corners. Of course there is more to a car than 50:50 weight distribution. 60:40 or 40:60 is fine if set up correctly.
I agree, and I think that we both are on the same page but described it in different words. My point being that engine wise, the I6 seems (to me) like a more desirable choice due to the V6 more complex structure and unbalance making the I6 have a better "power to potential problem ratio". But yes, the V6 might infact be the better choice in vehicles where limited space and weight distribution being factors.
I finally ordered the correct headlight for my car after three months of procrastination. It's got a new noise though so yay.
My dad is now thinking that he might keep his 2007 Corolla and buy a cheap car for me and him. It'd be my learner + first car, a cheap hauler for his DIY stuff, a tow car, a winter beater... He's thinking about buying a cheap worn Honda CR-V (5-7k PLN ~ $1350-1900). But I don't see myself getting an SUV, and propose a 1992 Volvo 945 (https://www.otomoto.pl/oferta/volvo...ie-i-przeglad-na-rok-ID6BDF6G.html#1a3e4bc20b). It has over 428kkm (266k miles) of mileage, but the 2.0 Redblock engine is known to last way longer, the owner is throwing in a new LPG installation and valid insurance+inspection until 2020, and it is listed for 2900 PLN ($750). Do you think it is a good first car/DIYer beater idea? Possibly, because I can hardly imagine Chrysler called "amazing". Though the 300 is a nice car for the money.
I commute by train but for the past 8 months or so I’ve been driving myself to the local train station. It’s only a 3 mile round trip drive per day, but I’ve become convinced that people who drive during rush hour are worse than train commuters. I’ve seen some really crazy stuff over these months in that short daily drive. Lots of people running lights, lots of people weaving in and out of traffic (which requires going into oncoming traffic on these roads), lots of people making a turn when it isn’t clear (once someone made a left through 2 lanes of busy traffic), lots of generally impatient drivers. Just getting out of the station parking lot sometimes is difficult with how people drive around here. Don’t see any of that on the train. Worst I’ve ever seen in the 18 months of train commuting is once someone wouldn’t let someone sit next to them. It gets kinda awkward when I have to sit near one of those impatient drivers on the train... This morning I ended up next to the dude who kept honking at me because I waited until it was clear to make a left.
Why hasn't someone made a commute based racing game, where you have to work your way through extremely heavy traffic as fast as possible without hitting anything. Sounds like it could be fun. Either that or extremely frustrating.
Sounds like driving in India in rush hour, totally insane. But on a serious note, in Midtown Madness 2 there was a challenge where you would do just that across the Golden Gate Bridge. I remember it being pretty fun, but also quite frustrating some times. Since the challenge was set on a bridge you had nowhere to go if things went south.
The old ones made badass derby cars too. Hell, they were faster back in the day too just like they are today. They pretty much just build dominating cars all around when it comes to actual factory cars in motorsports. Hard to talk shit when 80% of Fords ever made are still on the road today, while the other 20% made it home
Former, no. Latter, yes, but it won't be doing well as the cheap beater we want. We could buy an ordinary Mk2 for like 1k PLN (~$270), but we want something more substantial.
Yes it's me on about buses again, but how do you think the wentward DT40L performs, on my bus mod, i'm really not sure if 400hp is too little/too much/just right, since 400hp makes the bus quite a rocket on the flats, yet you need like 450hp to lug an empty DT40L up the hills in WCUSA at 30mph...
