Well, we had some rain last night, and now some cold weather. Great combo. Everything on the ground is covered in ice, sidewalks are impassable, and the roads were terrible, and are just now starting to get a little better. I was watching a garbage truck go up my relatively flat street this morning, and it had to take at least 5 running starts to get up this pretty flat hill. Saw an accident, and just getting out of the house is a mess. I had to take the car just to get down the driveway. You know it’s bad if somebody walking can get through an intersection faster than the cars.

Sounds like there is room for improvement in equipment....
    upload_2019-2-4_23-33-20.png

Such hard smooth ice and very steep inclines I have climbed with these, on foot with spike things you wrap over shoe I had trouble getting up the hill, but these tires on bike had no issues.

Cars and trucks have not a chance on steep climbs against this setup, really great and worth every penny!

I had bit similar for car too and that did work quite well even on smooth hard ice.

I love to bike, but don’t in the winter, due to my tires being almost totally bald, not to mention freezing cold air (often well below freezing) blowing in your face isn’t always fun.

As far as footwear goes, I’m limited to tennis shoes due to a medical issue. Even boots do better than just shoes.

Whenever it snows I always make sure to ride my bike over to places where people go sledding, mostly to show them how it should be done :p

I find that even on "normal" tyres (Maxis High Roller 2's), there is a surprising level of grip. Obviously not on the same level as studs though. As such, another hobby of mine is cycling back up the hill that people are struggling to carry their sleds up.

I guess this is a good excuse to upload a photo or two. This was before the heavier snow came, so there wasn't any sledding at this point.

I've been printing some random stuff for around the house while I wait on parts for the ursa. I made a soap bar holder, a toothbrush cup, a Q-tip holder, and a small print in place car, also turned an empty spool into an organizer

There are all kind of brands of overshoes that have studs, some fit also for shoes, they are kinda nice as those are not slipping on ice:
    http://www.snowgearfootwear.com/overshoes/

Also I don't go outside during cold time of year without this:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balaclava_(clothing)

Black chili works incredible well at winter, most of the time I don't ride studs, but Race King Race Sports as those work really well on snow or pretty much anywhere except on heavy crushed stone, sidewalls goes bad quickly on that kind.

Rolling resistance of Race King RS is pretty incredible low, Speed King 2 is at level of racing bike tire and Race King was just bit higher and if ground is even little soft, they have surface area for that too, just not huge knobs, but I haven't really needed big knobs for my riding.

Maxxis is really good tire though, something I have wanted to try, especially because better sidewalls, but my riding is pretty much non existent these days due to medical issues, so I might not need to get new tires for several years.

My experience has been that rubber compound seems to matter more than actual thread of tire, only in really really soft stuff knobs seem to do something, also in certain kind of snow if there is enough deeply of it.

I haven't found Schwalbe tire that I would of liked, they seem to be kinda different or something, every one I have had, has given me swoosh experience that no other tire has given, so after a while testing new tires became boring and I stuck with my Race Kings most of the time.

Those pics of yours are making me want to be there, such nice hills to blast down!

Mine are still the ones that came with the bike, so I am pretty sure they are the normal compound rather than the Black Chilli compound. I have been very happy with them so far though, winter brings a lot of mud here, so tread can be quite important. Its why the snow and negative temperatures are a blessing, there is far more grip on snow than there is on mud. Thankfully they do roll well enough that they are fine to use on tarmac and skate parks, obviously not ideal though, but I have no plans to start swapping tyres, especially with all the tubeless sealant :p

I've yet to have a puncture which is nice, that said, I don't run the pressures as low as I could. I would rather have slightly less grip than be walking back of the hill.

Those hills are great though, typical UK style riding really, with lots of trails each catering to different types of riding. Some with rocky banked corners, some with wooden drop off's. It's all unofficial (but mapped on trailforks etc), the forestry knows that the trails are there and tolerates people using them.

Trying out steam inhome streaming and variations such as moonlight..
turns out none of the devices i own apart from my computer and my phone have a decent decoder/encoder.. the Huawei one is a finnicky mess (HEVC works sometimes, sometimes not, periodic lags), likely to not be updated, (Huawei mediapad m5).. my macbook air keeps stuttering all the time, besides CPU load is high anyway so whats the point.. should hardware decode but doesn't..

Thanks qualcomm for being the only one that actually works on my phone, except for the fact that my phone doesn't have 4K 60, that won't be forgiven.

In fairness, you weren't gonna be streaming 4k60fps over the wifi anyway. That said, you might be able to get display out and ethernet working at the same time with the correct cables and dongles.

Steam Link is a product that irritates me. Its really competent hardware, perfectly capable of running software locally, as shown by the half functioning Kodi port that someone hacked onto them. With some software support it could be a fully functioning multimedia system, for USB playback and YouTube, Twitch, iPlayer, etc. Even support for steams own streaming platform would be a welcome addition. But there's nothing, its a real waste of hardware. Sure, it does support third party software, but the method for adding it is a total kludge. I guess I should be happy that someone at valve was cool enough to do that, even if it isn't a glamorous solution.

You can get Black Chili only with Conti, I think Maxxis has super tacky that grips same way, but it is then kinda poor roller.

Yeah mud is annoying, I'm not sure where is the photo where I was riding on gravel road, then I stopped and bike did stay right where I left as it did sunk so much to road that pedals where touching road surface, that was slightly muddy, but no problem I did ride 2 hours on that mess.

I think that my Wifi is 845Mbps or something like that was mentioned in specs, it's 5Ghz version, can't really tell difference to lan.

The steam link struggles to do 1080p60fps over wifi (with the PC wired) at about 5-6m away from the router. And that's with an Asus wireless AC router. Valve also strongly recommend against using wifi.

With all that said, if they launched an app for phones to be ran over wifi, it clearly works. But they might simply be taking advantage of the small screen allowing for lower quality settings than a TV.

Calculator claims it's 9Gbps for 4k/60fps with 'cheaper' chroma sampling but that is probably uncompressed.
    https://www.extron.com.au/product/videotools.aspx

With 4:4:4 chroma sampling it would be over 17Gbps

What might be then compression ratio, I have no idea, but yeah, transferring that over Wifi might be a struggle.

1080p 60fps with 4:4:4 chroma sampling is over 4Gbps, with compression that might be doable with 1Gbps bandwidth? Or if compression is really really great ratio, then maybe fast Wifi could do it, but it looks like that compression has to be quite heavy to get 4K/60fps moving trough network?

Maybe they downscale before streaming for phones and such?

10Gbps lan is certainly not an overkill.

I can tell people are watching TV trough net streaming these days as my internet speed has dropped from 60M to 20M during tv hours, I want internet back to computers and computer enthusiasts, common people with they mobiles and tv's can have some other network :p

i meant that the omission of 4K 60 record on my phone's encoder/decoder will not be forgiven :p

The day that 4K60 is streamed over wifi with acceptable latency will be a good one, but i am looking out for when i can steam inhome stream, out of my home across the 5G network, or 6G :p

Yup, that would be super cool, providing your mobile plan has the data for it. I can imagine that burnout paradise would be a great candidate, since aimlessly driving is fun in that game, and crashing is pretty decent too. So some small latency issues shouldn't be too big of an issue.
