So, what is a Russian mod and why are they so bad?

As far as I know, they have quite a nice selection of vehicles...

Typically, a Russian mod is very cheap mesh slap, with hardly any effort put into them. They are referred to as "Russian" because a lot of them are made and hosted on Russian sites like World of Mods and Modsgaming.ru.

Typically this is how they are made: Get a model of your choice like a Lamborghini Aventador, a Ferrari LaFerrari, or a Bugatti Chiron, and use the model with a jbeam that doesn't really fit the car. The Gavril Grand Marshal's jbeam is very popular with these. Do all that and you have a typical Russian mod.

One reason people aren't the biggest fans of them is because not only are they easier to do, but a lot of them also don't perform in game very well. Some of them even lack basic features, like working lights, gauges, etc.

I agree they have a nice selection, but really all they're good for is looking at them and to fill in empty voids for cars that BeamNG lacks, both officially and modded, and they hardly succeed at that. If you expect them to be as good as the official cars, then these are not the mods you're looking for.

Many of us here use the term "Russian mods" when referring to low-quality mods, simply because they are poorly made; many of these mods are made by someone named 58_Gram (among others).

Sure, third-party websites have a lot of vehicle mods to choose from, but many of these mods do not deform properly as the JBeam structures are typically not modified. In addition, the models themselves are taken from other games, such as Forza Motorsport and Real Racing 3. Think of Russian mods as mesh-slaps (another term that is associated with low-quality mods) with zero effort whatsoever, and you'll see why such mods are despised by the community.

It looks good but it crashes and drives bad.

I'm from Russia and tell you this: there are really high-quality mods (very few), and there are very bad (most of them). About viruses it is rather a myth, but they can be.

In short best avoid the mods from world of mods and modsgaming because thats where the crap lies, if you get the mods from here, they are of a far superior quality and they are not a 2 minute job some of the mods on THIS site take months to create

Nah, there's a Peugeot (205?) that's been pretty much slow/on hold since what, 2014? I think that BMW (The one the Most Wanted skin is iconic with, idk cars lol) has also been going on for a while.

Russian mods are mods that were either taken from other games or are poorly made with serious low quality! (But not all, some are made legit)
