One way to technically get around this is to release all the DLC parts into the stock game, but than there's no point in the DLC. So imo, I'm still not sure about DLC's.

Cities Skylines and Mudrunner both have DLC and modding communities, what would be different here?

Even then, would there even be enough overlap to make any issues? I don't mess around with mods much, but most of the popular mods seem to be scratch made, and most of the "I'm new to modding" mods tend to be skins and such, which does not need to conflict with DLC. If we ever get that automation engine exporter, which is not out of the question, then the overlap might mostly be alternate body styles, which hopefully someday we will officially get anyway. So that just leaves some of the more niche mods which mod makers seem to currently not be interested in.

Having a good community is important, but if it requires sacraficing a possible method of funding official content then it is self defeating. Again, this is a 7 year old project with a cheap price on steam and not a massive community like Minecraft or any AAA titles. I don't know BeamNG's finances, but someday funding will be an issue for them and as a business they need to consider their options. It isn't my place to say what is the best option, I'm just saying this is an option.

I think if BeamNG made DLC it would be good:);)

But then there is Ivan who reuploads everything in sight so I guess Beam and Dlc would not work out:(o_O

you have a good point. Beam is, sadly, a game who's mods frequently get re-uploaded on 3rd party sites. If DLC gets added....

That is just pirating, which the game already suffers from (note the awesome ship background for pirated versions). It's something every software dev deals with, if every software company said "lets not make a product becuase people would pirate it" then software companies wouldn't exist.

Really? Nintendo lost a ton more money than Beam ever would have, hackers (not meaning to pirate, but a few in the innocent hacking scene were looking to pirate) got into the Nintendo 3DS almost right after release.
Bet that doesn't make sense, but point is, it's nowhere as bad for Beam. It's only $25 dollars, It's obvious it's pirated as soon as you open it, and 9/10 it's a past version. Most likely, the most recent mods will need something from the most recent update

Mods will still be technically possible, but mods that add parts to or use parts from a DLC car, not so much. An example will be helpful.

Say I decide to get into modding. I find the proper software and start learning how to use it. Once I have achieved competence, I decide to commemorate this fact by creating and releasing a Gavril D-series Expansion Pack. It includes more complex engine tuning, lots of body parts so you can add spolers and splitters and canards and lots of other stuff that doesn't belong on a truck, head & taillight mods, more "street" wheels, maybe the long beds that the devs say they don't want to bother with... maybe an older, D15-fronted Roamer and then a Bronco/K5 Blazer expy based on that. Because the D-series and Roamer are base content, this is all allowed for now.

Now imagine that suddenly, some kind of "lost Gabester cars pack" comes out including an HD remix of the Gavril Bandit and other RoR cars, all updated and lore-friendly. Maybe I want to do the same thing to them... maybe I can't because all the DLC is locked up and it would be a federal felony to find a way past those locks as well as making me a dirty pirate. Forget about taking engines, gearboxes, etc. from those cars to use as swaps for "base content" cars. Now no matter how many cars I eventually mod, there are always going to be a few, those being the DLC cars, that will forever be lacking that modded content. This will also dry up the supply of other people's custom configs, which I collect.

Again, I don't get involved with the modding community so I don't know what's possible and what isn't, but there's two concerns I have.

    1) Why would DLC have to be completely locked or unlocked to content modders? Surely there is a way to allow access to mod parts without affecting security to an unreasonable extent.

    2) How much of an effect would this really have? Currently there aren't many people capable of creating such a mod, and in the future when the issue of funding has to be adressed I imagine there will be even less people. I think most people can agree that DLC can only be done properly once the base game has the important stuff, which would make the DLC extra anyway. If that extra content isn't available to mod, but the base content and scratch made content is still able to be modded, then how much could it possibly hurt the modding community to have such a small ammount of content limited? If it comes down to funding more content at the cost of a small group of modders having such a small limit placed on them... It seems to me to be a small price to pay for funding to keep official content coming.

I should clarify, when I said "I would like to see DLC", I meant if that is the only way we will ever get the content I feel this game deserves due to the company's recources, which I get the feeling is the case lately. More and more often it seems that the community hears "we would like to but do not have the recources" to a
suggestion. The quantity of content of this game is so far behind where a open world car culture sim should be, and that content isn't free to create. Of course I do not see it as an ideal solution, but it seems to be a realistic one.

There's no reason DLC would be locked. BeamNG itself has very little content protection other than the sound files, pirating it is as easy as copy and pasting it to a USB drive or file sharing website. They could release the DLC as an official mod, with no protection. Sure, it'd get pirated, but most people would probably pay for it.

Back on this topic to end the DLC rants, I would personally like to see them revise some older maps next, in particular, modernizing the textures and models on ECA to make it more like its WCA counterpart. It would be relatively easier than starting a new map from scratch and I believe it had been mentioned by a developer a while back before...

I believe they are going through and updating older maps. Hopefully they'll make some bridge transitions less rough in the process.

Also, though my attempt to get r/racetrackdesigns involved in this has run into utter apathy, I would like to offer a suggestion on Industrial Site's off-road course.

Please, make it just a little less intense. The Hopper's Off-Road config can easily break driveshafts on the S/F straight and will probably buzz valves going through the mudpit too.

Deluxe editions tend to be only some concept drawings and completely out of game content, some do offer sound track in mp3 or some format for extra money, if making money would be wanted, there are lots of ways to allow supporting without going to DLC route.

Then again, there are principles, I guess BeamNG devs might have principle of getting paid only from the game, like things used to be, after all devs don't appear to be maximizing income, they appear to fund game building more than milking everything possible.

Some game makers (pretty lot today) seem to go different route, they make least amount of game possible which are then used to milk maximum amount of money by over hyped DLC packs that used to be base content of the game back in old days.

I would not mind from DLC content though, but later, let's first have current content in good shape and standing, there is lot to be done as this game has really lot of content compared to many others.

One thing I hope is that JRI and East Coast will not loose their good bumpy roads. I really dislike super smooth roads, driving 100mph with Covet and it is like doing 20mph, scenery just changes faster, that is not realistic, even 60mph is an adventure in such vehicle on normal realistic bumpy roads I have used to IRL.

Billiard table smooth roads which some seek in games are just boring and don't really give much use for excellent driving physics.

If you set up measurement devices to shocks and drive around with so called smooth roads, you can see a lot more suspension movement than excepted, because roads are far from smooth.

Hence I hope to see realistic rough bumpy roads.

Getting an early look at the Bluebuck in-game is a double edged sword.

The good is that the devs can get early feedback from some of the more detailed orientated forum goers who will bring up missing or in-accurate historical details like people did with the Pico.

The bad is the hype train gets so fast and hot that if the Bluebuck isn't in the next update people revolt.

I personally want to see it.

I'm just gonna add my two cents...

First of all, I would never pay for DLC. I bought this game under the impression there would be no DLC and regular free updates. This is what I am getting and this is how I expect it to stay until the game is complete.

However, I would still pay for merchandise (such as model cars) to support the devs.

    I hate paid DLC.

I wanted to do a no texture mod, but I didn't find it funny enough for an april fool joke.
I may release it later as a experimental POC

On the r/racetrack design thing, I believe Conedodger worked with Mitch and one of the automation members to design the Automation track realistically, as they have experience with rallycross and trackdays. That's probably similar to what they would do for anything going forward too.

As for the updated maps, if anything is gettig a more thorough revamp I would start with Industrial Site or Small Island, they would be easy to get up to a JRI level of quality, opposed to something like Port or Derby Arenas (which are a bit of a mess right now) or ECUSA or Hirochi Raceway (which are not in desperate need of attention and would take a lot to get them to the next quality tier)

I don't think it's a good idea to have am entire update inbetween the Bluebuck tease and release update considering how long it's been known about (2012?). To have a 7 year long wait, plus a couple of months inbetween the teaser and release (memories of how long the I-Series took are returning), that would be rough. The exception would be if it has some form of pneumatic suspension, that is special enough that it would be nice to know about earlier. As for the details, vehicles like the Bluebuck are easier to get info and references on than the Piccolina probably was, so I doubt there will be any issues there.

I definetly hope the Soliad gets snuck in when that time comes though. No matter what they do, that will be a controversial car and the longer there is between the teaser and release the more time for stupid arguments over it.

Its VERY unlikely we will see the Bluebuck in 0.16 not until 0.17. i believe the next updates coming this month.
Also the v12 for the 800 series is very unrealistic v12 for a midsize? dumb

You are correct, the Bluebuck will most certainly not be in update 0.16. It will most likley just be UI, world editor and map updates.
