I tried the x64 file too, but nothing happens.
It really is instand "nothingness" - no thinking or lag or anything. Just no response, or perhaps (because the computer is relatively fast) the shortest lag before giving up. We all know the feeling of a computer that is starting a program, and the feel of trying to open BeamNG is that nothing is happening. Really weird...

Some software, like antivirus, antimalware does kinda similar behavior, if you disable Windows defender, results are same I guess.

Also if you try beamng.exe and then x64.exe it can be that something was left in memory, but not too sure about that.

If your 0.14 version x64.exe does create folders to my documents, copy path of those folders and put it into startup.ini that you can find from your BeamNG program directory, same place you can find .exe files.

Something like this, but replace yourusername with correct one:
    C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\BeamNG.drive

Then see if it works any better, if not, then it is very likely that something in your system is preventing .exe from running, it can be some security / parental control software or Defender if such are installed.

Some motherboard makers have time lock things that prevent some programs from running until set time, which install when installing motherboard vendor stuff.

You could do scan of your system Malwarebytes Antimalware just in case.

I've tried disabling everything under Windows Defender (antivirus and so forth). I've also made the Steam folder excluded from searches, and made the BeamNG.exe files marked as "safe".
I tried copying the path into the startup.ini, and nothing happens.

There is something hindering it, indeed. And it has worked for years before. Can it be anything that is weird in the registry somewhere, or should this not be relevant when having the game uninstalled? It shouldnt be a problem, because other games from Steam works perfectly...

I tried using CCleaner to check, and no problems found (apart from all kinds of temp internet files, as normal).

I'm open for more suggestions. Or perhaps some gurus from the BeamNG-team would like to try a Teamviewer-session, if that is useful? I'm at a complete loss here...

Hmm, I think game has bug, not sure if it is related to.

If you know how to use regedit, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BeamNG and see if there is key userpath_override and what is value of that key.

Anyway as I did just clear reinstall, I noticed game creates folder in C:\ called BeamNG.drive_userpath which sounds like a bug to me. On first start game crashes though.

Now if you have Windows 10, it might get sensitive about that and especially if you are not running game as an administrator.

Anyway that is something that is different to other game versions with this latest one.

There's not much we can suggest unfortunately.
The game launcher should be showing at least, since it's a very basic program.
If that does not happen, your issue is more likely coming from outside the game (a program conflicting with the game would be the common thing in such cases, but that also leave us with not much material to assist you with, as only you know what programs you have).

If manually trying to find what's doing that, disabling AV and etc. did not help, I'd would be suggesting a fresh Windows installation, if possible.
That may be easier than finding what is doing that.

Not a bug, this is intentional.
If the game cannot create the folder in the usual path (ie. something blocking the game), we use that one above as fallback (read as, if everything else fails).
Most of us use Win10 daily, no specific Win10 issue we have on our notes.

Hmm, when I did clean reinstall there was nothing blocking as no antivirus running.

This did the trick: I checked reg-edit and found that the paths were wrong. I corrected them, and VOILA - the game now works!
Thanks so much for suggesting this! :-D

There are some anomalies, though, possibly connected. When trying to change inputs for joysticks and such I'm not able to change whatever is already there. I'll do some experimenting, but it seems like it is "protected" somehow. But I haven't tried a reinstall after fixing the registry, so I might just do that first.

Again, thanks all, for helping to root out this weird thing. I'm now finally back in BeamNG, and have had my first trip in the new Italy map with the Autobellina. Such fun! :-D

The path was just pointing to a weird but valid path or it was filled with garbage?

It was a valid path, and one that made sense back when the game still worked, but it seemed it didn't catch up on the new path in which the game was installed.
