Hello everyone, I want to know if there's such thing as semi manual.
Control foward, neutral and backwards and no manual shifting.

Well semi means half and there are semi-automatics which are also technically semi-manuals.

i mean manual transmission controlled like automatic on "realistic" gearbox behavior.

sorry, no. best you can do is enable clutch assistant and just learn to use the shift up+down buttons. I would suggest just learning how to drive manual, as it's quite fun once you get the hang of it.

DCT transmission is closest to those parameters, but you need to put it on drive, neutral or reverse manually.

No, there are no automated manuals in the game. Lacking proper vehicles for this I also have no plans on implementing it.

Yeah, now they are dual clutch with manual clutch override, before they had automated manual boxes.

Clutch when get going and then automatic handles gear changing of manual box:

Please don't be so toxic, especially when you are spreading dangerous semi-knowledge...
Automated manuals are a very real thing and other than their use of "gears" they have technically pretty much nothing in common with actual automatic transmissions.
In small and cheap cars they were traditionally sold as an option for people that didn't want/didn't manage to shift on their own (older people for example), but where an actual automatic was too expensive/not worth the extra production issues for such a niche market.
These transmissions tend to be jerky and slow, so nobody really likes them.
As fufsgfen pointed out, the small/cheap car thing obviously is only one application for them.

Even today, the evolution of automated manuals(DCTs), still have some issues with jerkyness outside their comfort zone (shifting fast and rough under load)

SMG and SMG II, 65 millisecond shifts with latter I think. Actually SMG II would be close to ETK800 K-series in time wise?

It is rather confusing though, SMG, Steptronic, Tiptronic, internet pages seem to mix up them wonderfully.

DCT certainly is continuation of that evolution which those started really long time ago by those early automated manuals.

With trucks, first there was electronic gear shifter, clutch was operated normally, then those automated manuals where clutch was used only when starting driving, now they seem to be DCT too and clutch is not necessary to use unless one wants and selects override mode.

Think about new Scania Opticruise for example, it gets data from GPS and map database so that it can choose most fuel efficient gear to hill and best amount to speed dropping at crest of hill. Automatic rocking mode if there is wheelspin etc. So complex systems that early computer games were simpler than transmission control logic of modern truck o_O

You can make a decent approximation of an AMT using DCTs by increasing the preselected and shift time. It gives you slower shifts normally, and really jerky shifts if you put too much load on it. It also has a habit of getting stuck in a gear, probably because the DCT controller assumes shifts will be done within a set amount of time and can't skip gears.

I am gonna be honest... I didn't even know "automated manual" transmissions were a thing. So if I am understanding this right... is this basically just a bog standard manual car with a computer (or some other means) controlling the clutch and shifting? Like, I know what a DCT is obviously and all that fun trickery that they used to use in early supercars like the eGear that used to come on Lamborghini's... but you are mentioning that it used to be an option for cheap cars when the user didn't want a manual, but couldn't afford a full automatic? This almost just sounds silly to me... kinda like these conversions...

Granted if the system was set up specifically to do this... I suppose it probably wouldn't be THAT bad... a bit rough I would imagine, but totally drivable.

Automated manual transmissions were a real thing. They were pretty popular on European city cars, where a conventional automatic would waste too much power and be too large, but an automatic option was still wanted. They started showing up as early as the 1930s, using vacuum or hydraulic controls, and switched to electronic in the 70s. They were known for being jerky and burning out your clutch if you lived on a hill, but it let you get a 5 speed automatic transmission in the 80s for very little more than the manual.

I mean, it makes sense... automatic transmissions are INCREDIBLY complicated and used to demand a rather high premium... both for the total price of the car, and in efficiency afterwards. I have never seen one though as I feel like in the US "where I am" most people buy manuals because they want to have fun, not because they are cheap... well... now anyways. There may have been some back in the 40's and 50's, but that I feel like would have just been a comfort thing before they really nailed down automatic transmissions... as the advantage of efficiency would be pointless considering how "efficient" american cars were (LoL), and a lot of auto's of the time didn't really cost all that much more than a standard because they usually only used 2, maybe 3 gears, and just did most of the work with the torque converter since those cars had more torque than horsepower.

It is interesting to me though... even if they didn't work all that well.

If an european van would ever be considered to make an appearance in game, it could very much use an automated manual. If I recall correctly one of the most popular vans in EU that is Renault Master had an option for automated manual which often was used in city delivery vans such as post delivery and so on. I may be completely wrong, but as far as I know there is or at least was an option for automated manual.
