    My first post here: :)

    Update feedback:

    Hirochi eSBR
    • I love it. Great looking design and the first official electric car. I hope for more electric cars in the future, especially "average family vehicle" ones. Or how about an offroad version?
    • Ohh, and I love the wheels and the interior. And that dashboard is fantastic.
    • I think you have hit a very good spot with its range. Good enough for everyday driving but still notable inferior to ICE especially if stressed. Going up and downhill on Italy with anything but economic driving saw a very empty battery at far less than 100 km. Power comes from power consumption... ;)
    • I applaud you for having a 100 KW battery available, that should come in handy when driving over extended periods of time under heavy load and for the AI.
    • Naturally the torgue curve of electric motors causes some traction issues when using a keyboard. While the ESC filters that out mostly fine when going forward it doesnt really work when going backwards resulting in wildly spining tires and loss of control. Speaking off, the AI drivers should never go backwards in "follow random streets" mode unless they have no choice at all.
    • The battery pack has a very interesting configuration:

Is there any specific reason for this middle of the car "only" configuration? For example the average Tesla Battery looks something like this:

Is it because the SBR is still an ICE car that was facelifted into electric and you are just using the "exhaust tunnel" because there is empty space available now or does it have a deeper design idea behind it?

Arguably the middle version might be better for overall weight distribution as there is little weight at the sides of the cars and seing that battery capacity is still the most significant drawback of electric vehices it might just be done in real life because engineers need as much space as possible for the batteries and would maybe favour your design - if they could afford it capacity wise.

    • Any chance we could get an Power consumption/regenerative braking UI App? Basically the eSBR cockpit one but works when in external view and is more easy to read.

--> Something like https://www.beamng.com/resources/hybrid-ui-apps.6060 . In fact, you could basically use this one as it already comes with regenerative braking and battery level.

    • Speaking of engine/motor internals.... do you have any plans about making the electric engine more than a black box that just works? Now of course, an electric motor is much simpler mechanically than an ICE and obviously does not have things like exhaust temperature. Yet for all of its vastly superior reliability and in comparsion low amount of moving part it of course is not unbreakable either. Especially not when you consider the average life expectancy of a Beam NG car...
    • Pushing an electric car to the limits of its technical capabilities causes enormous stress on the power electronics and the battery pack. Fastly discharging the batteries can create significant thermal stress for both the battery and the motor.
    • Sufficiently heavy collision damage could cause battery damage and even battery fires (thermal runaway with electric arcing being a possibility.

New engine sounds are glorious. You you can really hear the engines screaming when under load or at high revs.

    New sounds are great.

I like improvements to Italy and I really like the new petrol/charging stations.

Thank you for more diesel engines.
The ones I tested sound significant more like a real diesel now compared to earlier versions of the game.

I like the small changes made to the appearance of several vehicles. They look both better and more realistic now imho.

    Sunburst Tweaked CVT feels better.

New engine explosion sound is much better and doesnt make you jump as much as the old one.

    An great update overall! :)

Not exactly a bug, but the Burnside Lead Sled is labelled as having an automatic transmission when it has a manual.

Has the sound changed for the Truck and Bus engines? I have no changes there and this is after a full clean reinstall

I think one of the new D-series variants is mislabeled as well. And while we're on the subject, the police 200BX still shows up with black steel wheels in the thumbnail even though it has sport alloys now.

    So 2 things.
1: What does this sign mean because it don'st seem to fallow Italian road signs from what I have read. Is it suppost to be "No thru traffic" or "No heavy vehicles"?
    upload_2019-5-7_2-27-38.png
2: This seems illegal due to the location on a main road. I know this town has been here for 400+ years but there's so much room they could have move the station into the hill more before hitting the wall.

Is anyone else's Offroad config looking like this? I'm imagining this is from the update to the fenders and bumper. I'm guessing this isn't a mod though, because this never happened before.

Thanks for feedback and welcome! We glad you like it and appreciated our work.
Regarding your question about battery layout you basically right. eSBR is a electric conversion of SBR4 designed as ICE powered car. The chassis unified across all versions, so we used free space to place batteries. For the future possible design of electric car we will be using traditional battery layout.

I don't get what everyone's crying about with the changes to the official vehicles... If the designs have been bugging the lead vehicle artist forever, shouldn't the artist be allowed to make changes?

Consider yourselves along for the ride; Be thankful and grateful that you're even being allowed to be involved in testing this project, and remember that everything in an early access project is subject to change.

If you don't like where the project's going, then you're allowed to either leave at any point, or voice your viewpoint in the effort to maybe see or hear where the developers are coming from to further your understanding of said change.

I was a bit hesitant to back the changes before I read gabester's post regarding it... Then after reading it I could completely understand.

I relate to gabester's vision to a degree, being an artist sometimes I just can't let go of major design flaws, and I can understand that he wants to make these changes.

The Moonhawk now looks like a beautiful car instead of an ugly upscaled matchbox car. It's no longer pretending to be a fullsize vehicle, and looks as if it were and early 70s model that has been facelifted slightly midway through its production. I still kinda wish it looked more like a 1977 Oldsmobile Toronado, but that's not really what the Moonhawk is trying to represent; A typical 70s GM midsize (Hence why it looks so similar; It has represented one the entire time it has been in the game.)

The Covet looks more flushed out and solid design-wise, the Miramar looks better and less blobby in places, the Sunburst, while I wish the body lines were still just as pronounced, looks much more like a modern car, and so forth. I can't really even notice most of the other changes besides maybe the ETK800.

Lets say it like this; If I were making a fictional car mod, released it, then a year later decided to release an update to it that changed the body shape, would you gripe at me for ruining it? I'm planning that for both of my repo released vehicle mods, we'll see how that goes over then we can go back and discuss how you handled this change.

And gabester also mentioned that every car in the game is going to be edited at some point.
So that means the old and new Pessima, the T series, the Burnside Special, the Pigeon, the Grand Marshall, the D series, the SBR4 (potentially, again,) the 200BX, the K series, the I series, the Bolide, the LeGran, the Hopper, the Barstow, and anything I may have missed here will be updated and visually edited.

Those shapes are going to see change, whether it be in 0.17 or later. Some may never look the same again and be much more drastic than the changes we've already seen (I'm looking specifically at the new Pessima,) so unfortunately we all need to figure out how to cope with those changes, or stop following the project and move on.

And it's also quite funny; Everyone's griping about making things more realistic, then when the devs change something to be more realistic, everyone has a cow about it.

All of the official vehicles represent either a specific vehicle, a specific range of vehicles offered by a real manufacturer over a given period of time, or a wide variety of somewhat related vehicles produced over a given period of time. Some look like real cars that have been rebranded, others look more original.

These changes are simply enhancing the design philosophy that drove their creation in the first place, not trying to remake them into something completely different.

As for the update, besides some bugs like the world editor and decal roads, issues with Windows 10 features lowering performance, UI issues, and black screen issues, it has been a relatively stable and decent one :)

Don't think I have seen this posted. The power output on the new 6.0L V8 Diesel is incredibly inaccurate for the time period.
Ive always complained the D-Series engines have been far too powerful, but the new diesel is way off.
For example; the 1994 7.3L V8 Powerstroke Diesel made 210 HP/425 TQ at the Crank.
The new 6.0L V8 Diesel makes 280 HP/580 TQ at the wheels. That output relates closer to the 6.4L Powerstroke made in 2008.
    Just my two cents.

After I'd had time to cool down a little, fully absorb the changes, and drive myself insane staring at the Sunburst old/new GIF, I came to the conclusion that most of the changes were actually positive; only my original beef with the fender flares remains. I have written at length about how this destroys the overall aesthetic of the car, and how having more defined flares isn't necessarily implausible even if it is very uncommon (as I said in the other thread, the people who style cars for a living know this stuff about lines and breaking up visual mass way better than I do) - the sport models at least should have kept the sharper creases (check out the 07-14 Subaru Impreza; the low-line models seem to have flares about like the current Sunburst's, but the STi sedan in particular had even more aggressive flares than the old Sunburst!

A lot of it could be a lighting/reflection trick; the Subaru's flares can also look different depending on the color of the car and the angle of the shot. With the Sunburst, from some angles it still looks fine-ish, from others it looks ultra bleh. Perhaps due to reflection limitations, an in-game car's creases must be sharper than a real-life car's in order to catch the light, and the eye, the same way; a real car can pick up reflections from a distance and at a level of detail which would melt GPUs were it attempted in-game.

I think that for the sake of preventing rampant speculation concerning the confirmation of another electric car, it may be a good idea to clarify which of the following you mean:

    1. "When we design an electric car in the future, we will consider the possibility of using a more traditional battery layout."
    2. "We are possibly considering designing another electric car with a traditional battery layout."

Is it just me or does the redesign for the Sunburst make the rear end look a bit thicker when looking from behind? Makes that end stand out to me.

I'm not one to be super strict about historical accuracy, but I did some research and found a lot of gasoline engines at the time don't even make as much power.
A second generation Dodge Ram (1994-2002) had a 8.0 L "Magnum" V10 engine up for grabs...and that thing could only break out 300 hp and 450 torque. Now while that's only a 20 horsepower difference (despite two extra pistons), I find the difference in torque (~130) is a little more alarming.

    t h i c c b u r s t

    I personally like it.

1988 GMC Sierra 6.2L Turbo diesel was something like 143HP @3600 RPM and 257 lb-ft @ 2000 RPM at best trim, military got bit better models.
    upload_2019-5-8_9-8-45.png http://www.duramaxhub.com/62-diesel.html
There are three levels of power and torque mentioned.

Now here is 6.5L IRL specs, it is much stronger motor:
    upload_2019-5-8_9-19-16.png http://www.dieselhub.com/idi/6.5-gm.html
Note that is 5-8psi of boost 215hp and 440TQ at maximum production version.

In game, there is over 20psi of boost.

It might be for better gameplay reasons for example, lower powered options might be bit boring.

Like Piccolina is more than 25hp as 25hp might not be enjoyable for most.

There is always a reason why some design choices are made, but there is no lore book about cars so reasons are not always clear.

Anyway, enjoy from few pointless bits of information above :)

Issue there is floating post, not that it is in front of garage door, that is just realism :D
