Yeah, I think some of the car based rules are pushing it a *little* far. I can understand not wanting adverts to show people hooning it down public roads (or cemeteries as it would seem...). But having an advert where you show a car on a race track doesn't sound unreasonable.

Most UK car adverts are very much "lifestyle" oriented. Showing happy people doing outdoor activities alongside their compact crossovers.

I'd love to know why there's a logging skidder in the middle of Queens (NYC)...
It's just sitting in a random empty lot in a residential area

(It's got 4 wheels and and engine and is used to transport things, it's close enough to being a car for this thread...)

This is going to be what James Bond will be driving in the 25th movie. Surprisingly, it isn't a Aston Martin (although it is possible that he will eventually switch to a AM, although we have nothing to support that possibility yet).

Ford has confirmed a hybrid version of the new Bronco.

    And a hybrid F-150...

And that all electric Mustang SUV abomination is apparently "on schedule"

I've never been so uninspired in my life.

    Cars are dead.

Why, because they now burn less gas?

Besides being painfully uncool, hybrid systems add greatly to the cost, complexity, and weight of a vehicle, reducing tunability in the process. Also, the words "electric" and "Mustang" should never be uttered in the same sentence, nor should the words "Mustang" and "SUV". All three at once borders on being an actual crime.

I really don't get the point of an SUV mustang. But this is the US division of Ford that we are talking about, and they do seem to exclusively love SUVs.

With that said, I can imagine a mustang SUV selling quite well. Because reasons?

Europeans haven't been able to do reliability for decades.

What if you want a non-tuned daily driver and some practicality in your Mustang?

Also, performance speed for econobox money is really cool.

As long as they make the hybrid drivetrain an option for those that want to deal with the headache later when electronics start to fail. It still pisses me off that the only option for the new Raptor is the TT 3.5. Yeah it's cool that you can make 450 horsepower out of a V6 that "small" (relatively speaking) but the 5.0 would have been much less stressed and therefore more reliable making that power, and it would sound so much better.

It has to do with the large popularity of SUVs in the US. It's easy to see why, if I'm honest. They're big, roomy, and heavy. People feel safe in them in accidents because they basically go right through the Corolla they hit killing the poor bastard inside.

Look, I'm not against traditional body on frame SUVs, I think they can be really cool. But the crossover trend is what's sweeping the nation by force. It's all the drawbacks of a traditional SUV without the benefit (off road capability, towing capacity, etc.).

Crossovers do have a more elevated seat position for drivers and do provide good space in the trunk. My dad traded his '16 Toyota Camry to a '18 Kia Sorento because of the greater space in the back and that he didn't have to fold his body to get into a low vehicle like the Camry.

The elevated seat position is one of the big reasons why I hate them. I don't want to feel like I'm driving a bus. Put my posterior inches from the road and I'm in heaven (at least until the non-drivers show up).

    1. These systems cost significantly more than a plain combustion-only setup.

    2. Why would you want a non-tuned daily driver?

    3. The Mustang name has history. You don't just slap it on a stupid crossover. (However I must say that this is not the first time a stunt like this has been tried; the Ford Probe i.e. rebadged Mazda MX-6 was originally going to be the fourth generation Mustang! You can guess how well that went over.)

    1. I know that, but the cost can make itself worth it.

    2. Well, if the stock form is better than other stuff tuned, why bother?

    3. Yeah, the Mustang was not a rebadged ordinary compact made more fashionable to sell for more... wait, that's exactly what the OG Mustang was!

Maybe if enough people send emails and letters the Mustang SUV and hybrids will be cancelled or at least called something else. It worked for the Probe situation.
