The Modular Destructible Building - reconstructed from the ground up This snapshot is work in progress and does not represent the quality of the final version. The walls are now made of blocks so that the mesh disappearing (which also doesn't happen anymore) isn't how the building falls apart, and your vehicle is much less likely to get stuck in the building. The dimensions of the building are wider, longer, and taller than the previous version. This allows you to fit most of the vanilla vehicles inside it. The T-Series, however, definitely doesn't fit. As this title implies, this will replace the old, singular building format with one which can have its walls replaced for significantly increased variation. And it might not stop with there. But that's the gist of it. I plan to release this version of the building over the weekend, but it will only feature a minimal subset of the modularity which I plan to showcase with this mod. I kind of just want to bring back the destructible building as an appetizer before I feed you all the main course. And no, I will not be providing the old version of the building. That thing was released for version 0.3.7.7 of the game, and it's a real letdown compared to a lot of the game's vanilla content. Just be patient, because this new version will be way better. If you want to see what this mod looked like four years ago, then here's a video by WhyBeAre for the first version of the building (which was kind of rubbish): The video itself is rather good, though. Hopefully he'll be able to try out this new version once it gets released.
Re: Destructible Building I am looking forward to this, it will be different having a destructable building in the game. I guess this is the first of its kind as well isn't it?
Re: Destructible Building This would be great for that scene in Twister where the 95' Ram drives through the house.
Re: Destructible Building What if someone made a "brick" and then created a wall using weak beam connections to hold the bricks together? My programming isn't that great, but I'm thinking of trying it sometime in the future. Would this work?
Re: Destructible Building So here's a small update: (imported from here) Yes, now it has a (moderately-low-res) rusty corrugated metal "shell." More textures coming soon! Also, I've turned off mesh breaking. Parts of the building don't just disappear anymore, but now some weird things will happen if you try to completely obliterate it: (imported from here) This update is now released. See the first post for more details.
Re: Destructible Building How do i turn mesh breaking on becuas i get this whenever i crash into it http://prntscr.com/6kxzfn
Re: Destructible Building I know this happens. Some people didn't like the mesh disappearing, so I just turned anti-mesh breaking on. If you want to disable it, though, enter "building.jbeam," then scroll down to the header labelled "Beams". It should say "disableMeshBreaking:"true" just before the beam list starts, and set it's value to false. You'll get a result similar to the middle and bottom photos in my first post ^^.
Do I drop the zip file with all the others in 'documents/beamng/mods'? It's not showing up in my props menu.
Just tried that, no dice. It's made even more frustrating by the fact that I can actually see both textured and coloured buildings in the in game mod manager but they just don't appear in the spawn menu.
"This thread is more than 3 years old." So what? This is totally on-topic. It's the same mod, so it retains the same thread. I'm taking ideas for how to make this building modular, as stated in the new title of this thread. Here are ideas and "sketches" of things which I have in mind:
