The more i play beamNG the more i notice the lack of transmission thermals and lack of retarder... 12 tonne bus, friction brake only.. after a while the brakes just get too hot after brisk city and intercity services.. I feel there is still quite a way to go on the simulation front

Also if transmission thermals are implemented, retarders are quite easy to implement, it's basically a transmission, with a single gear (fixed output at 0 RPM) and can have a big transmission cooler (or be linked to vehicle radiator)

If I'd have to suggest something on the subject of "Career mode" - I'd lean towards "NFS: ProStreet"-ish way. That could make it really simple to include a lot of different driving activities and you could just play only those of your interest. - Without forcing you to do stuff you woudn't enjoy. But if you would like it all - there woud be nothing on the way to prevent you from becoming the champion of champions if you beat all champions :D
    So IMO including stuff like (little brainstorm - choose only relevant ones ;) ) ;
    - Illegal street racing (NFS MW like)
    - Offroading (Off-road Drive / Fuel / MotorM4X like)
    - Rallying (Colin / Dirt / RBR like)
    - Drags (SLRR / NFS ProStreet like)
    - Circuit racing (Toca 3 / NFS Shift2 like)
    - Drift (NFS Shift 2 / Underground 2 like)
    - Destruction derby / full contact racing (Demolition derby 2 / FlatOut-ish like)
    - Undercover police missions?
    - Stunt-man?
    - Delivery? (with some Transporter movie like delivery missions, Spintires, like etc.)

In which you choose and upgrade your car to each kind of competition you wanna play it*. To prevent from easy start in new branch, If you already gained a lot of money from different one you'd have to get more "XP" or whatever to unlock upgrades in that certain class of activity**. Also to get to circuit racing, rallying or other legal activities your car would have to get proper licence for it.***

Well that's my short non detailed suggestion. IMO this would make it quite easy to get a simple (minimalistic) storyline to each career branch and I think that's easy way to merge all activities, which together would make from BeamNG.drive a proper ultimate driving game.

    * Maybe you could use same car to street racing and circuit racing, but for circuit (legal) you'd be restricted what you can and cannot have in your car.
** Maybe let's say you got more experienced mechanics with that XP?
*** For example for everything over "amatuer rallying class" car need to have rollcage and can't have N2O installation etc.

honestly, I would absolutely love for the career mode to feature buying cars from various junkyards (similar to Test Drive Eve of Destruction (Driven to Destruction for you Euro peeps) and then street racing them or rallying them. various types of races and maybe even Derby events. keep it simple.

Honestly, I kind of hope they take a more realistic approach to street racing. Mountain passes, freeways, drag racing, that sort of thing, not just flooring it through inexplicably low-traffic city streets in broad daylight like Need for Speed.

Hell yeah. There is so much unrealized potential from BeamNG, and I don't think anything else comes close in terms of realism.

I agree with this statement. The SBR-4 is based off of no real life vehicles. It was just made to be fast and sporty. The Wendover would be perfectly fine if it wasn't based off of anything real. Heck, it could be a full-size, front wheel drive coupe with a 7L V12 and it wouldn't be breaking away from the way a few cars are modeled in BeamNG. As long as it's something different, it's fine with me.

The way I see it, a vehicle in BeamNG does not have to be based off of anything real, but it does need to be realistic. Some sort of historical precidence, period correct styling, legal in the setting it is supposed to be from, something a real automaker would make, etc...

The SBR4 is believable for what it is. It has realistic styling, engineering, and is something a real automaker could believably have sold in 2013. A 1980's American full size faux-luxury FWD coupe with a 7L V12 is not believable for what it is, that would be a completely different situation than the SBR4.

Have we gotten any more word on the d-series tow truck? I remember hearing about it around the forums sometime last year.

1.) V12 is no stranger to the American auto industry.
2.) Longitudinal FWD is your friend

Back to the PBR discussion, these are some screenshots I took of the preview build of Torque3D 4.0, which has switched to PBR. Looks pretty sweet in my opinion.

The El Camino was X-frame for 1959-60, and would might have continued to use that X-frame had GM not discontinued the model between 1960 and 1964, so it might depend on your definition of "truck".

The motion of the vehicle climbing over those bumps is certainly trucklike - I think that's because the springs are stiffer without the weight of the body, making it handle like an unloaded rwd truck.

Mind cooling it with those 'sarcastic' exclamation points?

A correction, that concept list was from 2014, after the first big 0.3.x updates, not from 2013. And as for the possibility of those cars being released, it could take awhile depending on what other vehicles the creators desire to implement. The Charmand 1304B, for example, is not going to be in-game any time soon unless people want what would essentially be an aesthetically-modified Ibishu Covet. (Proof) But that is not saying it will never be released because variety would be preferred at some point, not to mention the fact that, like, half of the cars in the game are sedans. So who knows?

Edit: Based on some recent research which I did, here are the vehicles which have the highest chance of being developed for the game in the short-term, simply because the game doesn't necessarily contain a car of a certain specific archetype, or some other reason:
    • Bruckell Albatross: full-size coupe
    • Some unnamed Bruckell station wagon (Tiare?); may be based on LeGran so fairly simple in concept
    • Civetta Fulmine: 2 + 2 coupe
    • 2014 Gavril Roamer: Mid-size SUV, because we also could do with a more modern vehicle after a constant string of twentieth-century sets of wheels.
    • A fire engine. I have no proof and this is totally random, but since we already have a wide selection of police cars and an ambulance, this is not an unreasonable assumption.

A Renault 5 actually predates the Covet by over a decade, released in 1972 and it also uses a longitudinal engine, like a Saab 900 (pre 94) or Olds Toronado (pre 86).. But yeah it would still be too similar. Now I think a Peugeot 504-infulenced 70s french sedan would be an awesome choice if the Devs want to make something that's unlike anything else in the game, maybe throw in some 70s Volvo just for good measure.

Is there a questions thread where you can ask the team about the direction of future development?

The only way they would make a fire engine is if it was for an existing chassis, for example, the D-Series could be used for minipumpers and rescue upfits, a medium duty European truck could be used for various European fire apparatus, and a medium duty American truck could be used for various American fire apparatus. I highly doubt they will make a completely custom vehicle for this.

I'd also note the Gavril/Bruckell Beaufort, which was supposedly going to be a 70's sedan, described as being similar to a Ford LTD.
