ive searched and searched and played with it for years and I cannot add depth to my map. 1. I have drawn mud on my map 2. exported the heightmap 3. created a new png using the mud layer and inserted it into my zip. can someone direct me to the proper way for this to be done in 2019, the only threads and videos i can find are from years ago. Ive got these, now what to do
Your steps are correct. Make sure that the file is named [name_of_.ter].depth.png Ex: Also, the PNG must be: 8-bit greyscale have no alpha same size of terrain Black is max depth (of the groundmodel), white is minimum depth (of the groundmodel)
i successfully created depth. i made it black as a test. its fairly deep however it is not in the correct spot on the map. its about 20 meters off from where i drew the mud. the hole is where it gave depth and the mud track is where its supposed to be. this map is made from derby. both numbers of 1024 and 2048 appear. but the heightmap spawned as 2048 and 1024 only appears in info.json the heightmap is black, yet this is about as deep as it goes, is there a way to fix this once location has been fixed?
The texture must be 2048x2048, as the have this size: Also, if it's still not right, try to invert vertically your texture.
As you can see in my 1 file upload, it is indeed 2048. I only have tried a full 180° turn assuming it was flipped. Ill try a 90° turn this time, although the depth seems to just be moved instead of inverted in anyway
By invert, I mean mirroring it vertically / flip it vertically, not rotating Some terrains uses Y inverted heightmaps, and that may be your case, if your depthmap is not matching
that was it thank you, one more thing, how to increase the max depth, and what is the best way to make the transition from dirt to mud without the ridge
The max depth depends from the groundmodel itself. Some grounmodels have higher depth limits than others, you cannot change that. For transition, do a gradient, using the various shades of grey.
