Alright, so. It might be a little late to correct this in time for 0.17, but Game Mode is not entirely to blame for UI lag. In 0.15 I could have my screen completely encrusted around the edges with apps - powertrain, torquecurve, thermal debugs, graphs, navigation, basically everything - and they'd all run dead smooth. In 0.16 I reliably get lag with more than about 10 apps up, regardless of game mode being on or off, and it gets worse the more there are. Hardware acceleration for UI makes it a little better, but it's still noticeable and recording brings it right back. At this point I have tacho, powertrain control, boost gauge, messages, hotkeys, and even the radial menu turned off, and it still gets intermittent choppiness with a heavily reduced loadout of vehicle-analysis apps. When recording (via geForce Experience), it gets so choppy that apps like the g-meter and weight distribution tracker become basically useless. Is there any way to solve this without having to somehow make my own combination app that rolls all the vehicle-analysis functions into one, which I don't have the skill to do? Disabling mods, closing other windows, and logging everyone else out of the computer do little if anything to help.
Game Mode does not cause UI lag in terms of low FPS, but it causes extreme delay when interacting with the UI itself (anything you click / press / do) reacts on the UI several seconds later. HW Acceleration helps, as far your GPU is not already struggling. If it is, you are just adding more stuff on top to worsen stuff. Disabling it will return the UI to being managed by the CPU, but please note that we are already aware that this is currently a bit (not as much though) slower than it used to be, wonders of newer CEF versions.. We are already looking for solutions in regards, it's just not simple / as straight-forward as it looks What I can suggest meanwhile is to cap your UI resolution to something lower. The fact that it starts to give up when just recording with GFE sounds strange to me although.
It starts to give up before then, but recording makes it much choppier, much more often, at least a couple apps' worth of extra choppiness. The annoying part is that it varies by app. I can have all kinds of stuff on screen with no UI FPS troubles; my normal loadout includes all the default apps plus brake temp visualizer, navigation, a modded altimeter, Beam Regenerator, a digital tach and airspeed indicator, torquecurve, trip computer, input meters (both steering and pedals), and I think that's all of it... but as soon as I start loading up "deep" vehicle analysis apps like detailed engine & brake thermals, engine temp graph, g-meter, weight distribution, powertain vis, and so forth, it gets choppy quick. I can get rid of most of the default apps including messages and radial menu, cut several analysis apps, and still get choppy UI FPS. Previously I could run just about every analysis app ever with a nearly-full loadout of everything else; screen space rather than FPS was the limiting factor! I will try that with the UI resolution though. I never said or expected that it would be straightforward to fix, but am glad to hear that it's being worked on.
Looks like it's about time for I just wanted to say before this thread closes, I loved 0.16 (especially the electric SBR4 and updated models) and I'm beyond hyped to see what the next update brings! Thanks to all you wonderful developers! Looking forward to the most complete version of BeamNG.drive yet.
0.16 thank you so much for giving me endless hours of enjoyment and fun, I cant wait for 0.17 and it surprises but I will miss you 0.16 I really will, guess I'll see you in the history books in several years
...or when some modder releases the old versions of ECA/Hirochi/Arena a few hours after the update. (Which I will probably download, for archival purposes). Not that the new ones don't look much more polished and professional.
Personally, I'm hoping that @synsol has been prepping archived versions of the old (well, still current until 0.17) maps to place alongside DRI in the repository, just so that they stay sort of semi-official. There's a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in those old maps - some have been unchanged since 0.3 if I'm not mistaken. I'm also hoping that someone on the dev team will remember to take screenshots of the refreshed maps in the same areas that were catalogued in the "On the Horizon" devblog, just so that we can see those areas progress from the very earliest development:
I know, but there isn't a 0.17 discussion thread yet so I decided to post it here, must be a mod interfering with the Miramar doors and the right front turn signal on the Moonhawk, I noticed the Moonhawk's turn signal but haven't spawned the Miramar since before the body changes a few updates ago, completely forgot to change it to safe mode before posting
