What is involved with being able to simulate crankshaft sounds? I remember a post somewhere that someone was asking about more than just the exhaust note exporting from automation to beamng and something was mentioned about crankshaft sounds and remember was was said

Possible source of confusion: I believe that the company developing Automation is referred to as "Crankshaft".

There is no such thing as "crankshaft sounds", so yea, this is likely referring to the automation company ;)

Yea, it's referring to 'Crankshaft' as a company. Real crankshafts don't actually make any sound.

crankshafts don't make noise. if your crankshaft is making noise, i suggest taking your car to a mechanic

I should have been more specific as in the crankshaft profile like in automation
Sorry for the confusion, I saw a video on YouTube about why old muscle caes have that unique sound and got confused about the information that was said and. I remember them saying something about crankshaft size or somethig??? I'm not exactly sure.

Maybe you are thinking about flat plane vs cross plane?

Oh yeah that's right! Lol! I got the two terms mixed up!
    --- Post updated ---
Back to my original question with proper word this time. Lol! what is involved with implementing camshaft (not crankshaft) profile and sounds and stuff?

Alright... I think there is a lot of confusion going on here...

So you straightened out that you meant camshaft rather than crankshaft... that's good... now what do you really mean by camshaft sound?

Do you mean the "tap tap tap" of the lifters? the sound that a high lift and high overlap cam has (lots of lope... *potato potato potato potato*... say it fast you will know what I mean), what exactly are you looking for?

If we are talking about old muscle cars, it could be push rod engine sound (old squeaky V8s) ? :

Or lifter tick ? from 0:20

Or rod knock ? from 0:17

U mean crankshaft... There are crossplane (american) and flatplane ("italian" think Ferrari) v8 camshafts, they have different firing orders, it basically leads to american v8s having burbling sound low rmp torque and fewer rpm and italian v8s having screaming high rpm sound high rpm torque and power and more rpms possible... U were right all along;)

I mean all three of those and what would be involved in implementing such sounds? And would we ever be able to have custom firing orders and different amount of camshaft rotation?

All the engine/exhaust sounds are based on pre-made samples, the game does not support sounds from individual engine parts or mechanical characteristics like the firing order. (and that's also not planned in any way)

Will we get any pre made engines sounds that have different firing orders?

We are not creating these sounds on our own, so we have limited control over how exactly they sound and firing order is not amongst things we can adjust.

What about about sound changing based on size of engine/exhaust?

Engine and exhaust sound samples can already be adjusted. E.g. depth, pitch, fundamental frequency
