I love the new starter motor sounds, they add so much to the game. To increase the shear awesomeness of the sounds, it would be cool to have them varying in length. Like having options for a worn starter motor and such. I feel like it would be relatively easy, but its just an idea. It's not that big of a deal either but it would be cool.
You can adjust in jbeam how long the starter is active before the engine finally starts. The sounds themselves have no fixed length and rather adjust to what you set in jbeam.
What about having the starter be an engine/transmission part? Sound and time it takes to crank depends on if its a good one or an old one or a broken one that you would probably need to pushstart the car.
Cold engine, hot engine, good or bad ignition system, fuel mixture, engine compression, etc... I always fantasy my engine(s) in Beam are in pristine(this the right word?) condition so if starter sound is too long I might want to shorten it. Tanks for the tip @Diamondback
The combustion engine device can be adjusted for this using this jbeam attribute: Code: "starterThrottleKillTime": 0.xx Take a look at existing cars to see a few examples. Something like this is not planned atm.
What are these used for? "idleRPMStartRate":2, "idleRPMStartCoef":1 Also, where can I find a list of the available samples to use for my engines? Example: "i4_1996_eng"
This controls how much and how fast the starting process overshoots the idle RPM, before it settles down again. There currently is no list of available starter samples other than looking around in existing jbeam files, sorry... (We are working on this.... )
Awesome! That will make my diesel & carb'd engines start much more realistically. I'll play around with those. Thanks!
If I edit a Lua or JBeam file, must I close and reopen Beamng Drive or is there a shortcut key. Sometimes Ctrl + L does not work for me
