I don't know when was the last update for the site, but I just wanna lay down some ideas. (I know they're working on a new wiki so it won't be listed) -Dark Mode I like posting stuff at night because even though I'm almost always tired, that's when I'm most creative (I know, I'm weird), however when you're sitting in a dark room, the screen can be pretty blinding. I know someone's gonna say "JuSt tUrN ThE LIgHT oN", but think about it, a dark theme would be easier on the eyes. -Delete Messages (officially) I'm sure I'm not the only one who has typed a reply but needed to retract it before. So instead of having to edit the message, hold backspace and then type deleted, there should be a little option that just says "delete message". It'll ask if you're sure and boom, done. -Update the home page's tailer Insane amounts of things have changed since the release trailer they have on the home page, so they should: A. (the hardest option) Make a new trailer for the game B. Post the trailers for every new update (Ex. now it would have 0.17's trailer until 0.18 comes out, then it will have 0.18's and so on) Or C. Post each new video they make onto the home page -Make groups I have no idea when this was taken away or why but I was saddened when I couldn't do it. Please bring this back -More rating options There were more rating options but I wasn't on the site when they existed. They should add a funny rating (a laughing emoji thing), confused rating (just a question mark or the confused emoji thing), A surprised rating (an exclamation point), and maybe a disagree (this could be a red X. the only issue is people might use this in a negative way instead of respectfully. It's slightly less harmful than a dislike though) -Refined search system Don't know how hard this would be but the search could use it: Basically, it should have an autofill to reduce the amount of forum digging that one may have to do. Also, you should be able to filter your results. So if you're only looking for users, then there's a user filter. If you only want mods, then select mods. -Quick Reply This is kinda simple. If you get a new alert or conversation, if you click it, it says "go to conversation/thread" or "Quick Reply". If you select "go to conversation/thread" it takes you there. if you pick "Quick Reply", a little textbox comes down where you can type a response without having to switch back and forth to what you were doing and the thread or conversation. This can come in handy for people who get lots of messages but also frequently are posting forums and resources. It's an overall useful tool aswell. That's all I have for now. Feel free to add ideas below.
These are some great ideas, and the thing with the trailer should also be applied to their steam page. The screenshots and especially videos there are way outdated and could in some cases scare away potential customers. If someone does want to see these old videos, link the BeamNG YouTube channel on the steam page, as well as the other social media they have. With the ratings I'd be cautious as this topic started off a huge flamewar a few years (was it last year or the year before?) ago. Funny was often misused as "lol you are dumb, dislike" And the disagree should not be allowed without disagreeing people actually having to state the reason for their disagreement. The current rating system is great as it is, I would just wish for the 'awesome' rating to return (was it even called awesome?, can't remember, something along those lines). Currently, you cannot differentiate between "That is a really good post/picture/mod, awesome!" and "That was a funny/good/cool/whatever post/statement/picture." It would be a kind of downgraded version of the staff pick, but also for normal users to give.
BeamNG needs a new trailer for both this site and the steam page, no question. Dark mode would be much appreciated. The ability to delete user messages would be very nice. Everything else isn't really that needed. The group system was broken beyond belief and strained the website. Ratings are not very important and we now only have the essentials. Quick replying to alerts would not work, as your alerts do not show you the message itself, and even if it did, you might post something in a thread that might have already been said a few posts above.
An improvement that I think should be made IMO is that the "featured resources" tab should be updated more often, like every week or so.
