Is there a way to damage the connecting rod bearings without locking the engine up? Maybe a console command or something like that? Every time I try to do it I just lock the engine up.

why do you want rod knock? once rod bearings go the engine will die shortly after anyway so even if there was you wouldn't drive with rod knock for long

Like Shelby said, the damaged rod bearings are the REASON the engine locks up, as pretty soon the piston rods become malformed and slam into the sides of the cylinders. the pistons and crankshaft also take quite a beating, and metal erosion on the bearings means metal dust fills the oil and clogs up everything

Yes I understand how Engines work and what rod bearing damage is, thanks. I was wondering how to make it happen before the engine locks up in this game.

well you could starve the engine of oil by flipping it over, it's a little finicky though, too long and it won't turn back on when you upright it, too little and while performance will suffer the bearings will not give, if you do it right the oil should overheat without the engine itself overheating and you'll only destroy the bearings IIRC, I did it a few months ago so I think it'll only destroy the bearings but I'm not sure

Messed around with the flip over trick for a little bit and finally got it to work. The best way I found was to flip the car over for a few seconds, let it starve for oil, then flip it back over and rev it until the oil got to about 310 degrees. Then let it cool down, rev it back up to 310 and repeat. If you do it right and let it cool down every once in a while without locking it up, the rod bearings will go.

It would stil be nice if one could trigger the different types of engine damage.
