I've recently found an old racing game made for the PS2 by Konami called "Enthusia Professional Racing" and heard it's a fairly accurate simulator game. It's the only attempt at a racing game Konami has and did not sell very well so it is relatively unknown.

I decided to try it out. I figured the PS2 might be old enough to have emulators available and it is. http://pcsx2.net/download.html
Be careful when installing and uncheck the "install AVG adware 2.1" or whatever it was. Just don't install the other crap on accident.

Here's a video on how to set up the emulator
    http://www.pcsx2.net/guide.php

    PS2 bios (needed for emulator):
    (Google this)
    Need 7zip

    Enthusia Professional Racing ROM:
(Google that, first few results will work)
You will need 7zip to unpack the archive. Download is 1.1GB.

Right now I've got lines down the screen and no audio, but it works and I figure somebody on this forum knows how to fix the audio, and maybe the ROM is slightly corrupted with the lines? It did crash once. Edit: Game crashes a lot on the beginning of races... don't really know why

If any of the links are against forum rules or whatnot it'd be cool if you would edit out the links and not delete the thread

Ripped ROM's are illegal copies of the game.

I'd assume this thread gets deleted.

I deleted the links and just said to search it instead, hopefully that's ok. It's an old unknown game so I doubt anyone is going to get too worked up over the ROM being downloaded though

Just because it's an old and lesser known game, doesn't make it less illegal.

Also Enthusia is one of the most realistic racing games on the PS2, but it does have its problems. Chief among which is the fact that you get points during a race, if you hit a wall or another car you lose points. The problem with that is you also lose points if another car hits you.

I didn't say it was less illegal just that probably nobody is going to care. The ROM isn't even being hosted here, just linking to another website that's hosting it. I'm downloading the ROM from a couple different sources right now to see if mine was corrupted since it crashed a lot and had vertical lines on the screen.

The black lines are to do with how the game handles resolution. Can't really be helped unless you somehow manage to find one it likes. The audio should just work if you have the latest version of PCSX2 and an audio plugin that actually works.

Sometimes you find audio is real hit and miss in PCSX2 regardless of plugin. Its not a perfect emulation sadly :/

I don't even remember. Are you currently using a PAL or NTSC version of the game?

USA so NTSC I guess. Does it matter that my ps2 bios is from japan? Japan would be PAL right? I have a PAL version of the ROM downloading now.

I would use the NTSC-U (USA) version of the game with the latest USA BIOS. I haven't personally seen any issues relating to what BIOS version you are using, but it could be messing something up.

I used a USA rom now and it seemed to work. It played slowly at about 20fps where it played at 60 before though, when it wasn't crashing.

edit: weird things are still happening... game freezing, cars in the starting grid at weird angles... very bad fps. i don't know

Mess about with GDSX and emulation settings. Add some speed hacks and see if they positively or negatively affect the emulation. It runs great at 4x native res with lots of shiny things on on my 3570k / 7870 XT , but you might need to tone down the resolution or texture filtering or something.

I don't know. I'm not familiar with your components so I'd say you should look up what performance others are getting and just try experimenting with the settings. Allowing or disallowing 8 bit textures makes a big difference in some games, so I'd suggest trying that.

those graphics look great for a PS2 emulation...is that how it looks on the actual PS2? The pic of the red evo looks actually stunning. much better than GT4, which I dug out of my junk drawer weeks back.

Oh no. The PS2 version runs at a much lower resolution, doesn't have texture filtering
and I don't think it has wide screen support either. GT4 looks equally glorious.
This is why I love emulation: it frees console games from many of the downsides of console gaming, especially graphical fidelity and choice of input device.

That's the thing with emulators on modern computers.

The games never looked so good.
