I would like to take a moment to question the way nations are ranked with respect to their carbon footprints. You've probably heard that statistic that "the US has worse per-capita greenhouse gas emissions than China." So, China is clearly an environmental leader, right?

If you want to address a systemic problem like climate change, you need to look at the big picture. Per-capita emissions numbers fail completely at measuring the relative efficiency of an economy, not to mention completely ignore any kind of inequality. They're about as useful as those god-awful memes: "Despite making up X% of population, demographic A does Y% of undesirable thing B where X < Y, therefore demographic A bad." To actually assess how efficient a nation's economy is, we need to look at it in terms of emissions per GDP.

In 2017 (most recent data I could find), the United States' GDP was $19.39 trillion USD. Compare that to China, whose GDP was $12.24 trillion. In that year, the United States emitted around 5,107 megatons of CO2, while China emitted 10,877 Mt - well over double that. That works out to around 263 Mt CO2/US$1 trillion GDP from the US, and around 889 Mt CO2/US$1 trillion GDP from China. Neither is ideal, but one is obviously vastly worse.

But go on, keep telling me how great China is for the environment, and how we should all follow China's lead.

This is not politics, it's just logic. I would like to vent about this on Reddit, but they would find a way to make it about politics.

Here's what we need to do:

    1. Blow up the moon, we don't really need it anyway. The sun has enough of a gravitational pull on us that tides wouldn't really be affected all that much.

    2. Blow up China. Remember the video where that one guy ran around Beijing with a special vacuum cleaner and it spit out a yellow pollution brick? Oh, don't forget all those Chinese companies dumping shit into the Ocean.

    3. Seriously stop giving a rat's ass about politics. Listen, they don't care about you. They still get paid at the end of the day. Think about how much would change is politicians received ZERO benefits, paychecks, or kickbacks at all. They DON'T care about you. The sooner you understand that, the better off you are.

Decided to replace the valve cover gaskets on my Jeep tonight to see if they're the source of the massive oil leak:

It's ugly inside, but I've definitely seen worse...

And of course I can't do anything without it blowing up in my face... Damn thing broke off while unbolting it.

Netflix used to have decent content, now all they have are their shitty originals.

And they're taking away The Office by 2021 if I recall correctly. Not really their fault though, NBC decided they were going to make their own streaming service I guess. Still makes me angry.

It amazes me how many streeming services there are now. Do companies think we have unlimited money to get access to everyone's streaming services? Surely at some point they will realize this cycle has to end at some point.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Disney/Marvel, NBC, Motortrend, Spotify, iTunes radio, Youtube Premium, Sling, AT&T, Serenity, Philo, AMC (don't even get me started on how horrible their mobile app is), Playstation. You don't even know which one of those I made up.

If you have a budget for TV and want to watch The Office, Roadkill, The Grand Tour, Fear the Walking Dead (because you're a masochist), Marvell shows, and whatever Netflix's exclusives are... Those are a different $10/month service for each. This just is not sustainable for people who want to be able to watch things from different publishers without swapping subscriptions every month.

On another note, I only now realize that I've been playing Minecraft since before there was a hunger system and yet I have never seen a portal getting made (as in watch a new portal spawn because a player in another dimension passed through without a portal linked)
    --- Post updated ---
I mean, I started an engine swap on one of my boats yesterday and it went a little worse than just a snapped bolt. The mount for the hoist I was using snapped off while I was moving the motor across the yard, so now there's a 700lb outboard motor on my lawn and I don't have a way of moving the thing.

Aaaaand the fucking Jeep is still pissing oil absolutely everywhere. Went and checked, it's not leaking from where the bolt broke off, so that's good, but is leaving me to believe that the problem is more along the lines of a rear main seal.

    I'm NOT fixing that.

Not a smart idea. If those were opioids then your friends are probably addicted to them.
